Tristan – Floppycat of the Week
In 2015 my Ragdoll cat Tobee was Ragdoll of the week. In August 2017 he got a little brother whose name is Tristan. He is a rescue and was 3 months old when I got him. He weighed 1.8 lbs. I fed him Merrick Purrfect Bistro kitten food dry and wet and a month later when I took him to the vet he weighed 5.8 lbs. He is not a Ragdoll. The shelter said he is a medium haired tabby. He looks Maine Coon so he could be or he could be a Maine Coon mix. When I got him he was afraid of everything. The first day I brought him home he ran and hid in the opening in the back of my freezer where the wires and such are. I thought I would not be able to get him out but he came out on his own shortly after.
I put a harness and long leash on him and tied him to the cat tree in the living room when I was home because he would hid in small places. I borrowed a large dog cage that I put him in when I was not home. I think he took to me soon after because I could pick him up and hold him and he would suck on my sleeve so I bought him a stuffed puppy which he still sucks on.
I could put my hand in the cage and he would wipe his whole body back and forth along my hand. For a while he would put his paws on the side of the cage and flip himself over from time to time. When he was a baby he carried the puppy around when he was in the cage.
I worked with him and little by little he got over his fear of everything. When he turned one year old in May 2018 he was ready to have free reign of the house so I returned the dog cage. He is still skittish and if anyone even looks like they are going to come to my outside door he runs and hides, then it takes him quite a while before he comes out again.
Tobee rarely lets my hold him and if I pick him up to hold or hug him it is always very short lived and Tobee does not talk much. Even when he wants to get down from me holding him, he bites at me. Tristan is a very lovable cat with me. I can hold in my arms for a while, sometimes he even asks me to. When he wants to get down he just leans over to get down. When I sit on the couch Tristan either sits on my lap or lays his head on my lap and puts his chin up wanting me to scratch under his chin. Most every night we have cuddle time and that is what we do. Tristan can be upstairs and if I say, “Tristan, you want some cuddle time?” He will come downstairs and we have cuddle time. Tristan talks to me often and at times even seems to answer me when I talk to him like he knows what I said. At night he sleeps with me part of the night. When he comes up on the bed he always has to touch my hand then he has to lay as close as he can to my body. Sometimes he lays there for a while then gets up, walks over me and does the same thing on the other side of my body.
My cats are strictly indoor cats but I take Tobee outside for a walk in a small cage in a wagon. Twice I took Tristan too and he was very afraid. He did not even come out of the small cage for a long while when I opened the door after I brought them back in the house. While outside, and we take his stuffed puppy with us, he just huddles up to the puppy and when he sees people he hides his face in the puppy. So I have decided not to take him outside.
I have a closet under my stairs with a door on it. Tobee and Tristan like to go in there at times most everyday. When Tobee wants me to open the door so he can go in he scratch on it. When Tristan wants me to open the door he asks me, meows, and waits nicely for me to open it. Now Tristan is a little taller than Tobee and I think weighs 14 lbs. Four pounds more than Tobee. They get along fine and rustle and play chase me daily. Sometimes Tristan calls to Tobee to play. Tobee thinks he is the prince here whereas Tristan is just lovable.

Hi, I’m Jenny Dean, creator of Floppycats! Ever since my Aunt got the first Ragdoll cat in our family, I have loved the breed. Inspired by my childhood Ragdoll cat, Rags, I created Floppycats to connect, share and inspire other Ragdoll cat lovers around the world,
This is just adorable story, I am sure he appreciates you and all you have done for him.
Awwww, what a delightful story about your VERY HANDSOME (GORGEOUS, REALLY!) boy, Tristan!! God bless you for rescuing him, too!! What a treasure you found in him!! I’m glad he bonded with your so very quickly…AMAZING! But, I’m sorry he is still a bit skittish in certain situations but perhaps he will outgrow that overtime as his bond with you and Tobee strengthens and his confidence increases!!! What adorable pics of him (especially him in the dog crate with his woobie puppy!)! I just lurve the wild look of him. I bet he IS at least part Maine Coone based on his looks, behavior and size!!! 🙂 <3
Thank YOU soooo very much for sharing your wonderful love story about Tristan with us!! 🙂 <3
Wishing you, Tobee & Tristan many more years of happiness, good health, love, chatting, cuddles and purry adventures together!! 🙂 <3
Big hugs & lots of love!

If you look hard in some of the photos you can see that Tristan has one white toe on his hind leg.
