Tobee – Ragdoll of the Week
Tobee – Ragdoll of the Week
My Ragdoll cat’s name is Tobee. He is my first Ragdoll. I had birds for 15 years then in 2012 my mother passed away and I wanted a pet I could hug and interact with more so I gave away the birds and got a Ragdoll kitten. I learned about Ragdoll cats a few years prior to this time in searching the web out of curiosity. Tobee was 7 weeks old when I go him from Austin Farm Cattery in Rhode Island. I do not know if it is still in business because the owner moved shortly after I got Tobee. I think the owner is still in Rhode Island though. My mother’s name was Beatrice so I named him Tobee after her. When I got him it turned out that he was born 5 days before my mother died. He is now 3 years old. I found a website of a family run cattery, Velvet Rags Cattery. They have done research on cat foods. The following is the results of their study. When picking out a new food make sure that meat is the first ingredient, not chicken or beef by-products meal. By-products meal is the leftover parts after processing meat for human consumption like the beaks, feathers, feet, etc. This is not a very good source of primary protein for cats. Avoid corn and gluten. Corn is simply a cheap filler, is not a healthy food for cats and is a common allergen. Gluten is an inexpensive way to increase the protein of a food but cats need animal protein not vegetable protein. It is also one of the ingredients likely to cause food allergies in cats. A high quality food is important to maintain the soft Ragdoll coat. We also believe that by spending more on food we will spend less on vet bills and our cats will have a happier disposition. Personally I use Merrick Purrfect Bistro because it agrees with the information of the above research but is cheaper. Different brands are available in different areas of the country and world so you may be able to find a brand in your area that meets the above recommendations. Tobee likes to play hide and seek. He hides then meows, so I go find him. When I hide he watches where I go. Once in a while I can trick him. Sometimes he puts a twist on the game in that when I go to where he is he runs out and turns it into a chase me game. Then he runs into the hole in his play box, turns around and pounces me when I walk by. He plays soccer too but he is always the goalie. Tobee is not big on playing with toys. He does likes the SmartyKat Fish Flop Catnip Crinkle Cat Toy. They are in his bed upstairs and every so often he brings one down stairs. Later I bring it back upstairs. He has a bed but rarely sleeps in it, instead he sleeps in many places all over the house. When I am at my computer in the evening he lays on my deck next to my keyboard. Sometimes his tail is right on my mouse so I have to move it to use the mouse. He does shake paw each one. He does high five. I had agility trained him at one time until he got bored with it. I made the course out of wood, a foam tube, cardboard & duct tape, except the tunnel was store bought. He likes to go into a bag and I can pick it up and he lets me carry him around the house in it for fun. Do you have a Ragdoll Kitten or Cat? Consider submitting your kitty!
