Leela – Ragdoll of the Week
Submitted December 24, 2020
My husband and I decided to adopt a Ragdoll after 2 years of mourning our cat of 19 years who we loved with all our hearts. I researched several breeds and decided on a Raggy for their docile, friendly nature, their beautiful coats, and captivating blue eyes. After much researching of breeders, we contacted Bette Willette of Willetteragdolls in Massachusetts (we’re in Connecticut).
Bette’s wait list was long. When we finally got the call that our fur baby was born Christmas Eve, the 12 weeks we had to wait until Leela was old enough to bring home seemed like forever compared to the 9 months on the waiting list!
As timing would have it, a week before we were to pick up Leela, my husband got a call we waited for for 7 years – a kidney transplant! Leela would have to wait another week! It was an agonizing week, especially when we thought we may not be able to adopt Leela at all! But we followed our hearts and we’re glad we did!
Leela has been by my side since the day we adopted her. Since COVID hit, I’ve been working from home, and she has been my loyal office assistant. She loves to relax on my computer, edit my emails, and participate in Zoom meetings.
Leela also helps in the kitchen with cooking and baking. She is a big help decorating Christmas cookies, and supervises all culinary undertakings. She also prides herself on being an expert taste tester.
Leela also loves crafting. She also assists me with quilting and sewing, making sure the comfiness of the quilts are up to her standards – as I’m piecing them together, and the durability of the bags I’m making are up-to-snuff.
Leela’s favorite pastime is playing- with feather toys, balls, boxes , and ribbons on Christmas presents. She’s excited every time the UPS man visits knowing there will be a new box to play in. She loves chasing feathers, and carrying them around the house. She also leaves her toy mice at my office door. She’s even learning to play Fetch.
Once Leela is done playing, she likes to relax by laying on her back ‘spread eagle’ for tummy rubs. She doesn’t seem to care when I tell her it’s not lady-like!
Those cat naps you hear about are not for Leela! She is non-stop the entire day! She must know everything going on at all times and is never shy about voicing her opinions! She is a little chatterbox until she is done for the day!
Needless to say, by the time night falls, she’s ready to dream the night away. Leela loves to cuddle at night. She snuggles right up to me and my pillow, and we float away to dreamland together. Often times, she will not wake me in the morning and will wait for breakfast until I’m up. But, once the day starts so does Leela!
Leela has brought us so much happiness with her loving, playful demeanor. She was worth the wait!
