Summer – Ragdoll of the Week

Post Published on May 10, 2021 | Last Updated on May 10, 2021 by Jenny

My son and I fell in love with the Ragdoll breed when we visited a cat show a few years back in Roseville at the fairgrounds. It was a Jazzy Cats cat show (Jazzy Cats puts on a great cat show!) and we were initially looking at getting a Bengal but after meeting and talking to several Ragdoll breeders we decided they were the breed for us.

We were put on a waiting list by Monica the owner of Purrfect Kittens and we waited about a year to meet our girl my son named Summer. Monica was great for answering any questions and sent us extra toys for Summer. I reached out to her recently and I am not sure if she is still raising cats or not.

Summer - Ragdoll of the Week 3

Summer is 2 years 10 months 15 days old. We got her when she was 10-12 weeks old. She has been with us ever since. She was a very active kitten, always running around and playing with toys and wanting you to wave a feather wand for her. We instantly fell in love with her fluffy white Angora rabbit soft fur and beautiful bright blue eyes.

Summer - Ragdoll of the Week 2

The way a Ragdoll goes limp in your arms is like nothing you will ever experience with another breed. She loves to be held, sit with you, and comes any time the dogs are called. She loves to eat and will do anything for a treat.

She comes when you call her name and will sit. When they say the Ragdoll breed is doglike they truly are. We post pictures of Summer and all of our pets on IG: @queenblackfyre

Summer - Ragdoll of the Week 5

Summer’s favorite thing is to eat, we had to stop free-feeding her because she would just eat all the food. Now we keep her on a moderated diet and the vet is much happier with her weight. We try to keep her active and she still loves to play. She has a little brother, Totoro, who is Siamese/Ragdoll/Manx and he loves to play with his big sister. We recently celebrated Totoro’s birthday and Summer loved the new toy her brother got from Chewy: Catit Design Senses Circuit Cat Toy.

Our family is full of neurodiverse people and having pets around makes our lives so much better. Being autistic means the world can be too loud, too bright, and just too much. It’s hard to calm down and regulate sensory needs. Having a cottony, downy soft cat to lay on your chest and purr is so regulating emotionally and sensory wise. Sometimes it can be lonely being autistic and having a cat around is extremely comforting. Summer has always been a best friend for her boy and she loves him so much. Talking about cats also gives him something to share with others since most people like cats.

Summer - Ragdoll of the Week

When Summer was a kitten she loved to suckle and would suckle and her little boys ear! She would latch on and suckle and get his ear all slobbery. He didn’t mind of course and would let her do it. After awhile it became soothing for him as well and she would sometimes put him back to sleep by laying on his chest, purring and suckling on his ear. They are just the cutest pair in the world. Summer is a big cat now and her nine-year-old boy sometimes has trouble picking her up. She covers his entire chest and belly. He has to pick her up with both arms wrapped around her belly.

Summer - Ragdoll of the Week 8

Our family loves Summer so much we started looking for another Ragdoll. Due to the pandemic, we stopped looking and earlier this year started our search again. As a former top nationally-ranked rabbit breeder, I decided to start looking into opening up a cattery of my own.

Summer - Ragdoll of the Week 6

Our family loves animals we all love Ragdolls. I am in the process of registering our cattery and acquiring TICA registered breeding cats from champion lines with health and genetic testing. We look forward to adding more Ragdolls to our family and sharing our love for the breed with others. My son and I are eager for cat shows to resume in our state and for our first kittens to be born. After caring for a barn full of bunnies it will be nice to have a single litter of kittens to look after.
