Kaki – Ragdoll Kitten of the Month

Kaki – A Seal Mitted Ragdoll Kitten from Pinkerton Ragdolls

ragdoll-kitten-of-the-month-kakiThree states away from family, loved ones, and our pets, my boyfriend and I started to get lonely in our apartment-style living. Neither of our apartments allowed big dogs (50+ pounds), meaning: we were forced to leave our dogs with our families for a few years. Each day, we felt the emptiness of not having a companion worsen. Finally, we decided to start looking for another member of our family. One evening, during one of my nightly YouTube binges, I came across segments of Animal Planet’s Cats101. As soon as I watched the segment on Ragdolls, I knew I had found our perfect companion. Each trait noted in that video further sold me on the breed. I especially loved how friendly and affectionate Ragdolls were known to be, as I wanted a cuddle bug for a cat. Animal Planet has since update the Ragdoll segment, as I cannot find the same video that drew me to the breed as I would have loved to share it.

But, to me, something was still missing. The thought of having a Ragdoll did not escape my mind for months. Finally, I told my boyfriend and he agreed- we needed a cat, a Ragdoll cat. We did months of research until we found the perfect breeder: Pinkerton Ragdolls of Monroe, Georgia. After talking with Stephanie (owner of Pinkerton Ragdolls) for a few minutes, I knew this is where I would be getting my kitten. Stephanie was extremely knowledgeable in not only Ragdolls, but also feline health in general. She told me once that she has purchased veterinary textbooks just to read them because it’s interesting! Stephanie didn’t sell me on her knowledge, she sold me on her compassion for her cats, kittens and the breed itself. If you are interested in my thoughts on Pinkerton Ragdolls, I do have a review on Google that should give you a good idea of how amazing Stephanie is! It is the one under “Rachel Daniels”.

ragdoll-kitten-of-the-month-kakiWith my approaching birthday, my boyfriend informed my birthday present was one of the kittens from Pinkerton Ragdolls! Since the kittens were only going to be five-weeks old on my birthday, he decided to tell me beforehand so we could visit Stephanie and pick my new baby out.

Five days later, we were in Georgia picking out my kitten! Immediately, we knew this breed was right for us; the kittens’ mom did not hide when we came to visit, and she came right over to my boyfriend and laid on his feet! We both had never seen such a friendly cat! We were then informed that Purcillia, the kittens’ mother, had placed all of her kittens onto Stephanie’s bed soon after they were born. They were raised in a bassinet right beside the bed! Stephanie kept telling us how awesome the litter was- and boy, she didn’t disappoint! We ended up choosing a sweet, seal, mitted, baby girl! She came right over to me once we arrived at Pinkerton’s and laid right down! She only left my side to eat during our visit! Born on July 31st, 2016, all we had to do was wait until she was twelve-weeks of age to come home.

ragdoll-kitten-of-the-month-kakiThose seven weeks felt like an eternity! The only things that kept me sane were watching Trigg and Charlie non-stop and researching foods and products, as well as the breed itself. Naming her was another difficulty, as it also felt like it took forever to find the perfect name! Finally, after much debate, I decided on Kaki- naming her after something very personal to me.

The second Kaki came into my arms to come home, I knew she was the perfect companion. She slept almost the whole way home. Once we got home, it took her no time to adjust to our house and our lifestyle. She immediately followed me to the sofa, laid down between my arm and ribs, and fell asleep under my blanket. If she’s not cuddling, she typically wants to be pet. She loves to be rubbed everywhere, even her stomach! She’ll soon lie down and purr herself to sleep once she’s gotten sufficiently rubbed.

ragdoll-kitten-of-the-month-kakiOverall, Kaki is the best cat I have ever been around. I can see her lying around a lot when she gets older as she is only playful for about two hours a day. She loves to cuddle. Not only does she love to cuddle, but also she especially loves to be right underneath of my neck. She cuddles up right with my fuzzy Sherpa blanket and me. She not only sleeps with me during the day, but at night as well in the same position. If she’s not under my neck, she’s curled up on my arm somewhere. She always stays super close, which I absolutely adore.

We put a pink blanket on it, so she can either lie under the blanket, to make a house, or on top of the blanket. She always makes me smile with the funny positions I’ll find her in when she is sleeping.

When she does play, she loves the Turbo Scratcher and her cat tower. She also likes the Wool Rattle Ball from Cat Connection! Products she enjoys that were recommendations of Floppycats are the NVR Miss litter box, Urban Paw Luna Orthocomfort Cuddler Sherpa bed, WooPet! Food Mat, and WooPet! Litter Mats. Like Charlie, Kaki loves to use her litter mats as a scratcher.

I wouldn’t trade Kaki for the world. I love that she’s a momma’s girl and that she cuddles so much. It really means a lot that she so quickly bonded with me. She will forever hold a very big part of my heart! We love her so much, we are planning on getting her a friend from Pinkerton Ragdolls in the near future.

I fell in love with Kaki the minute I saw that adorable smooshface! She is a little doll. I am so glad to hear that you are going to get her a brother or a sister. I think companions are good for the animal, especially when you are not there. You didn’t say how she gets along with the big dogs. I gather there is no issue. I know they say cats are solitary. But a good buddy is just so much more fun. Enjoy your sweet Kaki and her new little friend. Please post that one too!!
