February 2022 Anniversary Giveaway: Nina Ottosson Puzzle Toys

Next up for grabs is one of Charlie’s favorites, the Nina Ottosson Dog Brick. If I just pick this thing up to load it with treats, he comes running and meowing!
Originally created for dogs (and hence the bone design), this toy is also great fun for cats! It’s a plastic toy with numerous compartments where you can hide treats. Cats have to rely on their sense of smell, their will to hunt and their intelligence in order to work out how to get to the treats.
There are multiple levels of complexity, which means you can build your cat’s experience up over time or just keep things varied. Each row has two compartments with flip lids that can be closed, but not so tight that your cat will be unable to force them open.
In between these lidded compartments, you can place a plastic bone, which the cat will need to work out how to remove in order to get better access to the lid to flip it open.
Also, the compartments have recesses hidden underneath them, and they can be slid within their row. So you could hide treats underneath one, meaning your cat has to work out where the treat is, how to remove the bone in the middle that’s blocking the compartments from sliding, and then how to slide the compartment out of the way to reach the hidden snacks.
These games are ideal for helping to prevent boredom in your cat – they stimulate their mind and turn eating into a fun game. This can also help to prevent destructive behavior since your kitty stays focused on the task at hand and doesn’t have so much pent-up energy.
