February 2022 Anniversary Giveaway: Equigroomer

Up for grabs on day 6 is the Equigroomer – a cat comb that my two Ragdoll cats who hate to be groomed seem to tolerate! It also removes quite a bit of cat hair, as many of you seasoned Floppycatters have seen on our social media over the years.

First designed for use on horses, the EquiGroomer is a great tool to use on cats to help get rid of the dead undercoat and keep their coat from dreaded matting.

It’s an extremely simple but effective design – a fine saw blade with very small teeth, encased in a solid wooden handle measuring 5 inches long that is nice and comfortable to hold. Your priority is always going to be keeping your kitty comfortable while you groom them, but it’s nice to have something which won’t cramp your hand at the same time.

A lot of similar grooming tools you can buy for cats work by cutting or shearing the cat’s healthy fur in order to help capture and drag out the dead hair. The EquiGroomer doesn’t do that – the teeth grab onto dead cat hair by the ends, only removing the loose strands and doing it in a way that doesn’t pull or hurt the skin, which is why some cats who hate being groomed don’t mind it.

It’s worth noting that because the EquiGroomer is so successful at gathering and removing dead fur, it’s recommended that you use it outdoors. While it will clump some of the hair together as you comb, expect to remove a lot of dead fur when you use it which will often fall to the floor, so save the trouble of vacuuming or grabbing a pet hair roller and use it outside if you can.
