I would like to introduce you to my 18-week-old Blue Point Ragdoll, Casper.

Always Wanted a Ragdoll

Since I was a young girl, I’ve wanted a Ragdoll, but they were not easy to find in the late ‘70s in Illinois. We had a few domestic shorthairs throughout the years and many dogs. I currently have a 5-year-old Goldendoodle, Taffy. We said goodbye to her brother Teddy in January after he developed a brain tumor, and Taffy was depressed and lost. Over spring break, I watched my pastor’s dog for a week, and while my girl loved to play with her new (very large) friend, she wasn’t happy to share my attention 24/7.

I decided to finally search for my dream kitty since Taffy loves playing with and nurturing smaller animals. Memorial Day Weekend I was able to bring Casper home, and he fit right in. Taffy treated him as her baby, and Casper was used to dogs in the breeder’s home.

Diagnosed with Ringworm

Unfortunately, 10 days after bringing Casper home, he developed a ringworm lesion. The breeder claimed it wasn’t from her cattery, but at that point, he hadn’t been anywhere but her home and mine, and my house had been ringworm-free until then. For this reason, I would not recommend her to others.

My elderly and immunocompromised mom lives with me, so when he was diagnosed on June 13, the vet recommended we keep Casper in strict quarantine until he was clear so as not to risk infecting us or the dog. He spent the next six weeks in a jumbo dog crate with three times a day snuggles and loving with only me when I would clean his crate, change his litter, administer medication, and feed him while wearing gloves and an isolation gown.

Free of Ringworm

A week ago, Casper was finally cleared (on July 21), and he is just thriving! He loves to snuggle and lie on my chest to watch TV. He’s constantly giving “kisses” to me and my mom, and he and Taffy groom each other. His favorite toys are his feather wand and a crinkly Jackson Galaxy butterfly. He also loves his tunnel.

Play Time Again

Taffy loves having a playmate again, and with him being smaller than her, she acts motherly toward Casper, including gently putting him in his place when he gets annoying! They sleep together with me, wrestle, and play fetch with me.

This beautiful boy has brought so much joy to our home after losing our beloved Teddy in January. It has been so much fun to watch Casper grow and change! He is very smart and already understands “no” and comes when called. He knows that when the dog comes in, she gets a treat, so he is at the door, and if I don’t have his treat ready at the same time, he starts talking up a storm!

He’s a very vocal little love bug. I’ve always been more of a dog person but this boy is changing my thinking. Casper truly made my dream come true! I love my Taffy girl, but I also love having a kitten! Both are so loving but so different. I have the best of both worlds!
