Dr. Catsby’s Whisker Fatigue Cat Bowl
This stainless steel cat food bowl from Dr. Catsby is excellent if you’re looking for a whisker fatigue cat bowl that helps to make mealtimes less stressful for your cat.
Not all cat bowls are whisker-friendly, so if your cat struggles with sensitivity, this is a good solution.
What is Whisker Fatigue?
Whisker fatigue is a condition that affects cats differently. It’s an over-stimulation of the whiskers, sending a massive amount of information to the cat’s brain.
A cat’s whisker is packed with nerves, while the tip has a sensory organ called a proprioceptor, which helps your cat sense things around them. But they can be highly responsive, and your cat may tire of how much information they receive.
This can be very stressful and overwhelming. All kinds of sensory factors can cause it, including just a change in the air currents of your home.
A frequent cause of whisker fatigue in pets is when trying to eat or drink from their dishes. Because the dishes often have raised sides to prevent food or water from falling out, the cat’s whiskers are pushed against the sides. When this happens, the whiskers get too many signals sent through the cat’s nervous system.
Older cats may also have to strain more to reach their food over the lip of the bowl, which whisker-friendly cat bowls can also resolve.
How Does Dr. Catsby’s Whisker Relief Bowl Help?
Dr. Catsby’s stainless steel option is one of the best whisker-relief cat bowls you can get. It has a shallow design which means that your cats won’t have their whiskers touching the sides when they eat their food.
Also, because it is stainless steel, it does a better job of preventing bacteria growth, which can help to reduce the chances of chin acne for your cat.
Ceramic bowls are also good, but they’re more liable to chip. They can then grow bacteria when the untreated surface is exposed.
It’s also dishwasher safe, but one downside is that the bowl gets very hot when cleaned. So be careful when you remove it from the dishwasher – give it time to cool down if you can.
Plus, the bowl comes with a silicone mat that can be attached to the base to prevent the bowl from slipping around on your floor. You may not need it, but it’s good to have the option.
The premium bowl is made from one piece of metal, so it’s durable, and there are no joins for bacteria to get into from any spills. And there’s a cut-out to make it easier for you to pick the bowl up from the floor.
The cat bowl weighs just over 14 ounces and can hold 5 ounces of food at maximum, although a 3-ounce can of food be a better fit. You could even use the bowl to replace your cat’s water bowls if your cat is struggling with drinking too.
