What’s Your Cat’s New Year’s Resolution? 6 Toys to Help Your Kitty

Post Published on January 25, 2013 | Last Updated on April 1, 2021 by Jenny

Ok, maybe it’s not your cat’s New Year’s resolution, but rather your resolution for your cat.  Maybe your kitty needs to lose weight or maybe your kitty has been destructive and needs more stimulation – here are 6 toys that’ll help.

Cat Toys to Help with Boredom

  1. Undercover Mouse Electronic Cat Toy – Sells for $28.65 and is eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping through Amazon.com.  This has been discontinued because the company sold it’s patents – so grab it now before it’s gone.  The new company is making the same toy -but they have branded it differently and made it “As Seen on TV”.  Here’s a video of Charlie and Trigg playing with it and a video of Caymus and Murphy playing with it.
  2. Stimulo Cat Feeding Station and Activity Center – $24.95 and is eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping through Amazon.com, you might also add the Aikiou Stimulo Level Three Tubes which sell for $17.39.  This not only good for entertainment but should help your kitty maintain his or her weight because they have to work for dry food.  Watch a video of Charlie using it.
  3. Neko Flies – Small Kittenator with Rod – Interchangeable Toy – $19.99 and is eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping through Amazon.com. Watch a video Charlie using it.  This is a great way to inspire them to move.  I love love love Neko Flies – can’t get enough of them.  A great toy for both human and cat.
  4. Yeowww! 100% Organic Catnip Toy, Yellow Banana 3 Pack – $20.95 and is eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping through Amazon.com.  If your cat loves catnip, then this should be your catnip toy of choice.  We love them.  And best of all, they provoke bunny kicking (see video), which means exercise.  Often my cats, my mom’s cats and my late Rags would go and play with it on their own too!
  5. Robo Fish, 3″ Electronic Pet Fish. Orange Clownfish – $23.99 and is eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping through Amazon.com. Watch a video of Charlie and Trigg playing with it.  These have recently been introduced to the USA, but have been in Australia for awhile.  They were selling this past Christmas season for $9.99 each at CVS, but they are no longer available at CVS.
  6. Nina Ottosson’s Dog Brick – $23.14 and and is eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping through Amazon.com. Watch a video of Charlie using it.  This was our first cat puzzle toy and it worked wonders to keep Charlie busy but also to feed him.  The energy he expended getting the treats was enough for him to be satisfied and leave me alone when I was on the phone!  Love this toy!

What toys would you add to this list?  What toys do your kitties like?  Do you have any of these toys?  What do you think?

Be careful with #15: a ring from a milk jug. My cat swallowed this once when I wasn’t around and I watched him puke it out! It scared me so bad so I am overly cautious now. If you watch them play I’m sure it’s fine, but I don’t know if I would recommend unsupervised. It could have just been a freak accident too, but just thought I’d share!

What a fun topic! Mine love just about anything and everything that you (Jenny) have put on here. Their favorites are: Grace loves the Natural Wand Cat toe with the natural made tassel. This toy is so well made. Illaria’s favorite toy is the pole with a feather – in fact, I found a hawk’s feather outside, brought it in and microwaved it to make sure all the germs were off, and she carries that like a prize around the house. Mari’s favorite toy is the laser pointer, and my little rescue Pumpkin who mostly loves to stay outside in the cathouse, unfortunately brings me my own live chipmunks! So sad, but he thinks he is bringing me his best gift when they get into the enclosure!
The felt toys still scare me. Got a new one in the spoiled rotten box this month and within 15 minutes, Illaria had chewed off an ear and I took it straight out of her mouth. Would have been something that could definitely obstruct her bowel. Hope that no one else’s kitties like to destruct those toys like mine do, but I don’t feel those are safe here unless I watch them carefully and take it away as soon as they get a mouthful of wool. And, lastly, the catnip Yeowwww products. Just last night, “someone” ripped open the end and when I got up there was catnip strewn all over from one side of the room to another. Those girls were partying while I was sleeping and when I woke up, they were all OD’d, sleeping like beauty queens!!!! No one took responsibility either!!! Thanks for always having such good products for us to keep our angels happy and thinking good thoughts. They don’t have to get into trouble when they have good things to play with and you have done such a good job at giving us so many choices. ♥♥♥

Having lost a very young kitty (age 2), we made a resolution to take time each day to tell & show our senior kitty how much she means to us. Snoopy has 2-3 play sessions with me & she has new comfy box on my BF’s desk so she can supervise his work. Her favorite toys include several items we learned about from Charlie, Trigg, Caymus & Murphy– Yeoww! catnip bananas, Bergan turbo track & Nekko flies. “Scheduling” in Snoop’s play sessions probably sounds silly, but she seems to know & enjoy the routine. Making her feel extra-loved & special has made us happier too 🙂

We have TONS of cat toys. My two cats that like catnip love the yeowww! catnip toys, especially any that are round like the balls, apple and lemon.

All three go NUTS for these mice we pick up at Whole Foods: the eco-pouncer and the mini eco-pouncer.

Another big hit are these Kitty Boinks. We have one that gets wider at the ends. It’s the one toy my lazy cat that’s not into catnip really enjoys.

As far as wand toys, mine also love the Neko Flies, Da Bird, Cat Catcher and peacock feathers.

Jenny, I must have missed your first post. Sometimes life gets in the way of Facebooking. Have I got some suggestions for you and I think I haven’t heard you mention them before.

The top favorite in our house are the Kong Catnip Toy Squirrels! They are semi-stuffed animals that have a Velco pouch in their tummies in which you can add catnip and after awhile, replace/refresh the catnip. My cats favor the squirrels as we don’t have chipmunks in Florida and these squirrels are active little critters! My cats will carry them about and it’s always interesting to see where the cats drop their squirrels come sunrise. They’re even machine washable, but don’t toss them in the dryer. The heat tends to melt the fluffy tails.

DaBird is a great hunt/chase toy but be warned, you will have to HIDE IT from view when not in use! Angel Mae would find it and drag it into the bedroom during the night thinking she could get me to play with her. 🙂

I also love the Antser (www.anster.com). It’s a raised feeding platform that keeps ants out of the food bowls because creepy crawlies can be an somewhat of an issue in Florida.

Omega Paws Ripple Board Scratch’n Massage Bed. It is basically a snazzy box that has three interior layers. As the first layer gets worn, you can discard it and expose the awaiting, new piece of Ripple Board underneath. This makes it a VERY economical cat bed. My cats love them so much I have two in our bedroom.

My two love the Cat Amazing puzzle game for treats. It gets kicked around and turned over on a nightly basis. They also enjoy the Kong Kickeroo and love holding it with their front paws and kicking away with their back paws.
The Undercover Mouse scared my two “attack” cats- they would have nothing to do it, just stared at it. It went back to Amazon!

  7. Bonnie says:

Although not a Ragdoll, my foster kitty loves the little plastic balls with bells in them. And also…plastic water bottle caps! She also loves this little soft squeaky mouse wand toy that I get at Walmart. She tears it up! My own cat is 17 and kinda past the playful stage. Although she will play with a feathery wand toy from time to time.

  8. Joanne says:

Oops – forgot another fav which I stock up on when I visit the US & take home for all my friends Raggies in the UK – plastic springs that I get from Pet Supermarket. Mine (& most of my friends Raggies) like the small ones & carry them ’round, bat them & chase after them (of course playing fetch too!), a couple of the larger Raggies prefer the bigger size but most like the small. Very cheap but very effective, don’t forget to separate them out! Of course, Yeoww catnip toys are always popular – the best nip toys you can buy 🙂

  9. Jenn Rausch says:

My cats are very easy going – their favorite toys are Lambswool mice and the bouncy soccer balls – both about $1.25 at PetsMart. They are a huge fan of Cat Crazies and Looney Loops – you can get them both at Amazon.com. I think the biggest hit with my cats are Filbert Nuts – cheap and inexpensive – all 5 of my cats love them. They fly very well on hardwood and tile floors and that cats go crazy for them.

  10. Laurie says:

Neko Flies! All three come running when they hear the little jingle of the wand. Athos will pull them down from where ever they are.. Have to use a drawer..but he’s figured that out too. They are not safe from him!

    • Julie says:

Hahaha! I keep Mooshu’s in my dresser drawer!! Come everyday day to find him sitting on the dresser waiting to attack it!

  11. Hawkeyes mom says:

Hawkeye is spoiled. He likes peacock feathers that I twirl around him, little foam soccer balls that I buy at petsmart, little stuffed mice, little plastic balls with bells in them, the synthetic cloth square cubes with 3 entrances that you can get at target, the matching 3-4 ft tube that attaches to these cubes, Mylar-like crunchy balls that make noise when you roll themin your ands or when the cat pounces on them, and the cat dancer that you can get on amazon that is pretty cheap and simple but my cat loves it!

  12. Margot C says:

I just bought a Robo Fish at CVS in Duarte, CA a few days ago (because of you!) for $!0. Leonardo is mystified and excited by it. It came in very handy on a bored rainy day today and yesterday.

      • Margot C says:

I used all of my CVS bucks from the oceans of cold and flu meds, Tylenol and Riccola Drops that I have had to buy for family members over the last two weeks. Everyone got sick but me (I used AirBourne though I have no idea if that worked or it was just a fluke). So on this my fifth bike ride over to CVS I cashed out all of my CVS bucks for a Robo Fish.

      • Margot C says:

They have a display with lots of them (actual price $9.99), I bought the pink one (which with what I actually know about what colors cats see was probably the wrong thing) and I put it in a large glass salad bowl on the floor. He is absolutely mystified by it.

  13. Cathy Keish says:

You know, after I read your post on those Robo Fish, I went to 2 CVS in my neighborhood and despite having them in their ad circular, they didn’t have them. They wouldn’t order them either. They told me they had them online but they didn’t. I was gypped! I’m really not going to spend $18 on Amazon when CVS advertised them for $9.99.

    • Jenny says:

I am sorry to hear that – have you tried eBay? or another store? You can also call CVS Corporate and complain – 1-800-EXTRACARE.

    • Margot C says:

That Amazon price is crazy! The Duarte, California CVS has a whole display of them, maybe they transfer between stores?

  14. Coinneach Fitzpatrick says:

I picked up Da Bird at Petco last payday. Even Angus, the world’s biggest, fattest, laziest cat, loves chasing it.
