  1. Skippyjon Jones – Skippyjon Jones is no ordinary kitten. Oh, no. . . .He’s actually El Skippito, a great sword-fighter ready to battle banditos the world over! With a little imagination and a whole lot of fun, this frisky cat dons a mask and cape and takes on a bad bumble-beeto to save the day. And along the way, he’ll be sure to steal young reader’s hearts, yes indeed-o!
  2. Millions of Cats – An American classic with a refrain that millions of kids love to chant: Hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats.
  3. If You Give a Cat a Cupcake – If you give a cat a cupcake, he’ll ask for some sprinkles to go with it. When you give him the sprinkles, he might spill some on the floor. Cleaning up will make him hot, so you’ll give him a bathing suit . . .
  4. The Cat in the Hat – Written by Dr. Seuss in 1957. Poor Dick and Sally. It’s cold and wet and they’re stuck in the house with nothing to do . . . until a giant cat in a hat shows up, transforming the dull day into a madcap adventure and almost wrecking the place in the process!
  5. Kitten’s First Full Moon – Kevin Henkes’s acclaimed national bestseller about a kitten, the moon, and a bowl of milk was awarded the Caldecott Medal and was a New York Times Best Illustrated Book.
  6. Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes – Pete the Cat goes walking down the street wearing his brand new white shoes. Along the way, his shoes change from white to red to blue to brown to WET as he steps in piles of strawberries, blueberries, and other big messes! But no matter what color his shoes are, Pete keeps movin’ and groovin’ and singing his song…because it’s all good.
  7. Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door – All is calm in old man Fookwire’s yard until new neighbors—Little Old Lady Hu and her cat, Muffins—move in next door. Muffins is one mean dude! He terrorizes the birds, interrupts Fookwire’s painting, and ties the squirrels’ tails together.
  8. Cat Heaven – With a gentle, playful rhyme, Newbery Medalist Cynthia Rylant explores all the ways our beloved cats enjoy Cat Heaven. Her shining artwork illustrates a world of peace for cats in Heaven, where no tree is too tall for exploring, where there is no lack of angels’ laps for sleeping.
  9. Dewey: There’s a Cat in the Library – When Librarian Vicki Myron finds a young kitten abandoned in the Spencer Library return box, she nurses him back to health, deciding then and there that he will be their library cat, and naming him, appropriately, Dewey Readmore Books. Dewey loves his new home, but once he discovers the littlest library visitors-who like to chase him, pull his tail, and squeeze him extra tight-Dewey begins to wonder if he’s truly cut out for the demands of his new job.

  1. Wonderfully delightful post, Jenny! Is there anything more fun than reading a great book to or with a child and perhaps an awesome kitty between you? (Or, how about just reading a children’s book with pop-up pages to your kitteh? Just thought of that…might be fun since kitties are really children with the most beautiful fur and faces who will never grow up!) 🙂 <3

The favorite books I remember reading to and with my son, Henry, during his childhood were:

    1. Cat In The Hat (of course!)

    2. Kat Kong (with a delightful kitty named Blueberry!)

    3. Puss-N-Boots Fairytale (another classic!)

And that's all I can truly remember because it was a LONG time ago!

The books on your list look absolutely awesome! Wish I had some grandchildren to read to and read with…perhaps one day… 🙂 <3

Big hugs & lots of love!

    Patti & Miss Pink Sugarbelle 🙂 <3
