The Benefits of Omega-3s in Cats
When I interviewed Dr. Jean Hofve, DVM, about Geriatric cats, she mentioned that every senior kitty should be on 4 supplements – Omega-3s, digestive enzymes, probiotics, and antioxidants. Then, I asked her which brands, etc. she recommended for each.
If you follow the site closely, then you know we have already reviewed and covered the digestive enzymes, probiotics, and antioxidants. Here are the ones that Dr. Hofve recommends for those:
- Antioxidant: Only Natural Pet Whole Food Antioxidant Blend
- Digestive Enzymes: Only Natural Pet Vital Digest
- Probiotic: Only Natural Pet Probiotic Blend
Next up is the Omega-3s. Dr. Hofve likes MOXXOR because it is one of the best sources of Omega 3 fatty acids. But before we get into the specifics of MOXXOR, let’s look at why Omega 3s are important for our feline companions.
What Can Omega 3 Do for Cats?
As explained by Dr. Hofve in this article, Omega-3s are essential nutrients, which means that cats get them exclusively from their diet as they are unable to produce these fatty acids themselves. Out of the Omega-3s, the most important ones are EPA and DHA.
DHA has an important role in the support of the cat’s nervous system, including the brain, as well as the eyes. EPA, on the other hand, is part of every single cell membrane. This should give you some idea why having the right amount of Omega-3s is such a crucial aspect of taking care of your cat, but just to make it even more visible, here is a list of 5 things Omega-3s can do for your furry companion:
1. Improve skin, coat, and nails
This group of fatty acids is also a crucial part of the skin, fur, and nails. They make skin toned, properly nourished, and it will keep it healthy. Fur and nails become firmer and they get a special kind of shine that will point out that the cat is healthy. In fact, probably the best way to test your an Omega-3 supplement is to see the change in appearance because it should be striking. A few of the dermatological issues it can prevent are dry skin, dandruff, mats, skin lesions, breakable nails.
2. Improve Nervous System Health
Omega-3s are largely involved in the maintenance of the cat’s nervous system, which means that they are absolutely crucial for cats of any age, but especially for seniors, whose nervous system is already affected by the wears and tears that come with time. Moreover, they can tone up your cat’s mood, which means that even older kitties will be stronger and more alert.
3. Improve Eye Health
Ophthalmology issues are also a big issue when it comes to senior cats, but Omega-3s can be extremely beneficial in these cases. However, cats that have the proper amount of these fatty acids all of their lives will have healthy eyes even in old age. While Omega 3 supplements are excellent for senior, prevention is best, which is why it is best to give them to your cat all ever since it is young.
4. Prevent Chronic Disease
Due to their powerful anti-inflammatory properties, Omega-3s can ensure that a wide range of chronic diseases do not get a chance to settle in. Among these are kidney disease, heart disease, Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome, osteoarthritis, atopic dermatitis, and so many others.
5. Help with Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Omega-3s are involved in the metabolism of cholesterol, which makes them play a very important role in keeping your cat at an optimum body weight. By making sure that your cat has access to the proper amount of Omega-3s, you will not have to worry about it getting overweight with age.
Correct Dosage for MOXXOR:
MOXXOR said:
“We recommend 2 capsules per day for humans (1 x 60 capsule bottle lasts 1 month), and 1 x 30 capsule day for pets to last for a month.
However its perfectly OK to take more per day as there is no overdose from taking MOXXOR simply because it’s a 100% natural food supplement.”
How Do I Make Sure that My Cat Gets Enough Omega-3s?
One way of making sure that your cat has access to these nutrients is asking your vet to recommend a diet that includes Omega-3s. However, this may still only secure part of the recommended daily dose of Omega-3s. As such, giving your cat supplements is a far better way of providing the optimum dose of these fatty acids that can do so much good.
Finding a source of high-quality Omega-3s is also extremely important. Some pet diets, for example, get their Omega-3s from plants, which is actually inefficient because cats can’t use the plant-based version of these fatty acids. The best way to go is to find an organic source that offers a superior quality of Omega-3s because this way, you will get the most out of the effects as well.
According to Dr. Hofve’s recommendation, MOXXOR is an excellent choice. The company operates their very own oil-extraction company in New Zealand. Since they do not outsource this production of the essential ingredients, they can attest the superior quality of their final product.
MOXXOR has 100% natural ingredients, which make the Omega-3s reach maximum efficacy in achieving their roles because they are pure and easily accessible to the body. As for doses, Nancy Wizner, who is a big supporter of MOXXOR and who has been using it on her cats for quite a long time, said that “I always give the dose of 1 capsule per day for cats, 2 for dogs”.
While MOXXOR is not specially made for cats, the fact that it is a 100% natural product makes it ideal for both humans and cats. Nancy now uses 2 capsules per day for herself and 1 per day for her cats. She mentioned that at the beginning of the treatment, providing a higher dose is required to build up Omega 3 levels.
As you can see, Omega-3s can do wonders for your cat’s health. Whether you have a young cat or a senior, these fatty acids will keep it healthy for the long term. And MOXXOR can help you get the most out of your treatment because it is an organic product that includes superior fatty acids processed efficiently.

Hello 🙂 I am curious as to why you decided to give Charlie only one pill per week when one a day is recommended. Looking for a good supplement for my 2 year old Ragdoll boy who seems to have some itchy spots. This is a bit expensive but if one a week get you good results I might try it. Thanks Sue
Hi Sue, I no longer give mine MOXXOR. I give them Wild Anchovy Oil. I just do 3 drops in their food. Pam of Purrrfectly Holistic is helping guide me now about what my guys need. It takes out the guess work. Trigg was allergic to the mussles, so couldn’t continue with the MOXXOR.
SUPER PAWESOME POST, Jenny!! Great info!!! Will have to add this supplement to my wish list for when I get my Social Security income in a few years. Just can’t afford this on our budget right now.
