When I was little and we had a cat, my mom always complained about how ugly cat furniture was. It certainly has come a long way since then and the PurrFur Retro Modern Cat House is an example of how far it has come.
I came across the PurrFur Retro Modern Cat House when searching for Mid-Century Modern side tables/nightstands for myself. And got really excited about featuring it on Floppycats. So I reached out to the seller, who is in Poland, asking if they would consider sending us one to review. Lucky for us, he agreed to send the cat house and his cat scratcher, which we previously reviewed.
The PurrFur Retro Modern Cat House arrives fully assembled at your door and ready for your kitty to use. I read the reviews on Etsy for this cat house and one reader mentioned that she figured it was the size/height of a regular end table. Be sure to always be cognizant of dimensions listed and use a tape measure to get an idea before you buy a product like this thinking otherwise. It is shorter than a side table – and it more the height of a low ottoman. I was upset to see this reviewed left a 3 out of 5 star review because she figured it was bigger and that her cat would fit – the reason sellers list dimensions, etc. is so that you don’t have to “figure”. You can actually see – and so now the seller has a 3-star and it was not his fault. I guess as someone who receives reviews that aren’t always fair to the product, I am sensitive to how people review products and find them to be unjust at times. So I wanted to point this out, as it was not the product’s fault for not meeting what someone thought in their head. That’s why the facts are stated in the product’s dimensions.
Both of my cats are 14 lbs and they both fit. However, you can have a slim and trim, long and tall 14 lb cat, or you can have a short and stubby 14 lb cat. You have to measure! You can’t rely on their weight for something like this – other than the cat house will support up to 80 lbs =).
My cats didn’t sleep in it that much – but they liked to play in it and Trigg loved to run into it to get away from me (if I was hunting him down to cut his nails, for example). I did find them in the PurrFur cat house more often after I moved it from the sunroom to the living room. It is always important to experiment with bed placement when it comes to cat beds. It definitely got more use in the living room, where we are a good portion of the day. I love the quality of craftsmanship and supporting small businesses that really care.
We previously reviewed their cat scratcher, which is of a similar design – and remains to be a hit in our house – a great cat bed and perch. I have told PurrFur that they should make the scratcher be the “roof” of the cat house, so you can have more of a two in one product. I think the cats would use it more too.
