When I interviewed Dr. Jean Hofve about Geriatric Cats, she mentioned that she thought all geriatric cats should be on 4 supplements for cats: an omega 3, a probiotic, a digestive enzyme and an antioxidant.
I asked her which ones she liked, brand wise…and she mentioned these for the probiotic, digestive enzyme and antioxidant:
- Only Natural Pet Whole Food Antioxidant Blend
- Only Natural Pet Vital Digest
- Only Natural Pet Probiotic Blend
So I reached out to Only Natural Pet to see if they could send us some to try out – and they did! Here is our arrival video:
Only Natural Pet Vital Digest Digestive Enzymes for Cats Product Review Unboxing
Only Natural Pet Vital Digest is an all natural digestive enzyme made from a combination of four natural plant-derived enzymes (lipase, amylase, protease, and cellulase). Only Natural Pet Vital Digest provides the necessary digestive enzymes that are destroyed in the normal processing of canned and dry foods. The addition of these enzymes aid in the absorption of nutrients in your cat’s food.
Signs of poor digestive health in cats include: bad breath, increased stool, diarrhea, hairballs, excessive shedding, itching or allergic reactions.
Listen, I am not a vet. I am not a cat nutritionist. We tried these because of Dr. Jean Hofve’s recommendations – I wanted to give it a go on my cats to see how it went in case readers were looking for solutions. My vet did not make this recommendation for my cats and does not even know I tried this product on them. This was my decision as a cat owner and cat blogger to give this to my cats.
What We Experienced:
My cats were not experiencing anything severe – but Charlie does have issues with constipation at times – as well as drier stools. Within days of being on this (in very small amounts), they both seemed to have more energy – running around the house more, etc. Charlie’s bowel movements became plumper and Trigg’s became more frequent. Of course, if one of them had more severe digestive health issues, I could have seen how effective these could have been. That’s the thing with reviewing these sort of products – they are very subjective and individual to what’s going on with a specific cat.
I really liked this product and will more than likely continue to give it to my cats because it’s super easy to add to their food (just sprinkle the powder on top of their food and mix it in) and because it should help in their long term health with nutrition and nutrient absorption.
Protease for Muscle
Provides protein digestion in the stomach and small intestine to build muscle.
Amylase for Energy
Digests starchy foods to release simple sugars for energy.
Cellulase for Fiber
Provides dogs and cats with the enzyme to digest cellulose, reducing the bulking effect of fibrous foods.
Lipase for Overall Health
Lipase for Overall Health: Digests fatty acids allowing the pet to absorb Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Vitamins A, D, E and K.
Only Natural Pet Vital Digest Digestive Enzymes for Cats Product Review Video
Only Natural Pet Vital Digest comes in a powder that is sprinkled on or mixed in food as you can see in our review video above. I literally just used the tiny scoop (see video) included in the canister to sprinkle the powder on their wet food. I did not measure out the 1/4 teaspoon or double the dosage, as I didn’t want to have litterbox issues, i.e., diarrhea.
- Add 1/4 teaspoon for every cup of food given.
- Start with a small quantity and gradually increase the dosage to the suggested amount.
- Double dosage for animals eight years of age or older.
- For best results use with every feeding for the life of your animal.
