You might have read our post about receiving all the great cat food from Now and Go Natural – both made by Petcurean.

This week we are doing a review on the Now! Grain Free Adult Cat Food.

Thanks to Petcurean for sending us food to try!

Both Trigg and Charlie liked the food and continue to eat it when it is served to them.

Unfortunately, without more than 3 months of a supply worth, I don’t really know the health benefits of this nor do I know how their coat reacts, etc.  So our review is really based on how the cats like it and if they eat it.  Also, it is important to me that the food is Grain Free – which it is.

I am not a huge fan of dry food, however, so I do prefer Petcurean’s GO Natural wet food for cats instead.

Ingredients: De-boned Turkey, Potato Flour, Pea, Potato, Whole Dried Egg, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E) Pea Fiber, Tomato, Natural Flavors, Flaxseed, Coconut Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), De-boned Salmon, De-boned Duck, Dicalcium Phosphate, Sun Dried Alfalfa and more.

The Now! Grain Free Adult Cat Food is only 31% protein whereas their GO Natural dry food is 50% protein.  Here’s the breakdown of the guaranteed analysis:

  • Crude Protein (min) 31%
  • Crude Fat (min) 18%
  • Crude Fiber (max) 3%
  • Moisture (max) 10%
  • Ash (max) 6.5% *Omega 6 Fatty Acids  (min) 2.8% *Omega 3 Fatty Acids (min) 0.55%
  • Magnesium (max) 0.09%

It’s available in 1 lb, 3lb & 10lb bags.

This food is great when compared to the likes of cat foods you find in the grocery stores – and even a lot that you’d find on the shelves at Petco and Petsmart – however, I do think Petcurean’s Go Natural is a better formula – we will be doing the product review for that kibble in a few weeks.

Here’s a video I captured of Trigg and Charlie enjoying the Now Grain Free Adult Cat Food:

I switched my cats to NOW earlier this year and they like it. I also give Weruva canned to one (the other doesn’t like canned food). I’ve been pleased with the two brands. I feel better knowing I give a quality diet to them. I looked into GO upon hearing other’s reviews, but was concerned about the higher protein. I thought, unless it’s a really active animal, you don’t want too high of a protein. Am I wrong on this?

Bought Now over a month ago hes eating it slowly but I still feed Purina Naturals and Fancy Feast breakfast he loves it. Not enough protein and too much fruit and takes too long to eat to stay fresh and with shipping just too expensive.

We definitely appreciate the time and effort you put into your review. As cat owner’s, (myself included) we strive to find the best possible food out there. I don’t think any harsh words were meant to be tossed your way, its more the frustration we have with pet food companies in general and there lack of providing our pets with a species-appropriate diet. Keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged! We need more people like you 😉

Have you looked at the GO! dry food, I find the ingredients to be a bit better, but I no longer feed dry at all. I’ve decided to take the raw approach, because its a food that is 100% suited for their bodies, no more un-necessary carbs or preservatives, yay!

You need three more than three months to see if the food makes any difference? Why? I’ve seen coat differences in a just a few days when I’ve tried different foods on my cats. No comments on the ingredients?

Not much of a review, besides “my cats ate it”. WOO HOO!

I apologize that you are disappointed with the review. I had just started doing reviews when I did this one – and wasn’t aware of everything to include. Nonetheless, a kinder approach to commenting would be in your best interest.

I started feeding Now to my two cats and I noticed that their stool is very smelly and soft, and its the only food they are getting at the moment. I’m thinking it might be from all the fruits it contains. I honestly found the list of fruits quite extensive in this formula, 9 fruits and 7 vegetables :S. Cats are not meant to eat fruits let alone tropical fruits.

What I find frustrating is when you try and find a diet grain- free you get stuck with diets high in fruits and vegetables and cats are not omnivores they are CARNIVORES.

I am still looking around for a new food to switch them to. If anyone knows of any foods that consists mainly of meat with limited veggies, grains and fruits please let me know 🙂

All of my 7 cats love the Now Treats for cats, but….i just got word from my Pet Store that they are no longer available. Does anyone now why??
