Murphy – Ragdoll of the Week
Murphy – Ragdoll of the Week
Murphy is a one year old Blue Color Point Ragdoll. He was born Feb 21, 2015 in a litter of two other male kittens and a female.
We got him from Vanillabelle Ragdolls – the breeder is Bobbi Graziadei from upstate New York in the Syracuse/Rochester area where we live. She is an awesome breeder and I would highly recommend her. She truly loves her cats and she socializes them so well! All her cats are relaxed and get along well with other cats, dogs and children.
I had two other mixed breed cats for a long time (first cat for 21 years and 2nd one passed away at age 12 last year) and always wanted a Ragdoll, as I was fascinated by their large size and gentle natures. Now we finally have one, and he is quite a character! We decided on the name Murphy before we picked up our kitten at three months old, as in the pics we were sent he looked very Irish with his light blue eyes and coloring, and Murphy just seemed very Irish sounding!
Murphy weighs 20 pounds, but is very strong and is all muscle! From day one, my family has played daily with him with wand type toys, as he loves to leap and dart around and has become very athletic due to this! His favorite toys are the wands that have a swivel type plastic stem and that includes feathers or man-made streamers that make a rustle type sound. He has a comical, funny nature, and loves to crouch down and hide and then dart out and run away when you spot him! He is very particular about his wand toys and we keep three of them on top of our coat hooks in the front hall. If the morning progresses and he hasn’t been played with, he will sit underneath the coat hooks looking up at the toys until someone takes pity on him and comes to play! Sometimes we will pick up one of the wands and he doesn’t budge or respond until we choose a different one and then he will go crazy for it-in effect he actually chooses which toy he wants to play with this way!
A strange thing about Murphy is that he does not seem to respond to catnip in any way, and I think that is why he loves the wand toys so much. Murphy’s other favorite toy (and one I would recommend to other Ragdoll owners) is a small stuffed green pickle that he just loves. Probably not because of the catnip in it, but because he likes it’s size and texture, he carries it around and retrieves it when we throw it for him. We got this at a local PetSmart near us and have replaced it several times! Another endearing quality that Murphy possesses is that he is very loyal and is ALWAYS following me from room to room, seemingly without effort as when I look down, all of a sudden he is stretched out relaxing on the floor right where I am, as if he was there all along! Sometimes I feel bad for him as I rarely sit still when I am home so he is constantly moving from room to room, but he doesn’t seem to mind!

Hi, I’m Jenny Dean, creator of Floppycats! Ever since my Aunt got the first Ragdoll cat in our family, I have loved the breed. Inspired by my childhood Ragdoll cat, Rags, I created Floppycats to connect, share and inspire other Ragdoll cat lovers around the world,
Looking at Murphy makes me think that’s what my little 3 month old blue point boy will look like when he grows up! I certainly hope so because Murphy is a stunner!
It’s amazing how fast they grow and change! Enter your little blue boy as kitten of the month!
Oh Murphy you are the Ragdoll of the week!!! You definitely deserve it!! A big thumbs up for your owner for loving you and taking such wonderful care of you! A big thumbs up for Bobbi Graziadei! Thanks for the kind words and The Murphy Man also says thanks!!
Murphy is SOOOOO adorable! Just look at those piercing baby blues! Love how he follows you from room to room, such an endearing Ragdoll quality! Can see from all his toys and sailor necktie that he is wonderfully cherished by your family. Best wishes for a very happy and long life together! Thanks for sharing!♥♥♥♥
Thank you! He is like a little dog in his personality!
Murphy is quite a handsome little man! His eyes are gorgeous and his expressions are adorable. Love the last photo with him wearing the tie. His legs and paws are not shaggy and I wonder do you trim his paws? Enjoy your little fellow. He is just precious.
Thanks! No paw trimming yet but I have noticed now that he is a bit over a year old that his paw fur is getting in the way when I clip his nails!
What a handsome boy! Interesting about the catnip – not all cats have the same reaction. Of my three Ragdoll boys, only one really responds to catnip. From what I’ve read, the catnip response is hereditary. It is estimated that about 1/3 of the cats lack this gene. Who knew? 🙂
I didnt realize that! It makes it more difficult and challenging to find good cat toys if your cat is one of those not responding to catnip like our Murphy!
Oh my- Murphy sounds like quite the character and he is so handsome, especially in his tie! I love the thought of him “directing” you to which wand toy he wants to play with at that moment. Have you tried the Neko Flies toys for him? My two go nuts for those! Thanks for sharing Mr. Murphy!
Thank you! I will look into that toy- is it found online?
Definitely! There’s available on Amazon here.
or search on Neko Flies. Great thing is that you can replace the critter on the string if it gets torn up- which happens at my house! Wings get pulled off and legs chewed up.

Thanks Lynn! I’ll try it!
