Submitted by Sep 22, 2019 Mara Jade Barrow By Hannah Barrow Mara Jade - Ragdoll Kitten of the Month 7 With the second year of our marriage approaching us, my husband and I felt like it was the right time to expand our family… With a Ragdoll kitten, of course! We had been researching the breed for months now and often found ourselves sprawled out on the sofa looking at pictures of Ragdoll kittens on the internet. It only made since that when we discovered a litter of kittens was only within a couple miles of our house that we had to go meet them! That’s where we met our Mara Jade. Mara Jade - Ragdoll Kitten of the Month 2 With her white fluffy fur and little brown ears, it reminded me of Princess Leia in A New Hope with her classic style in her white dress and with her brown hair in space buns. I suggested the name to my husband, a much bigger Star Wars fan than myself, assuming he would happily agree to it. He thought for a moment and then suggested Mara Jade to me. Mara Jade is also a female charter from Star Wars, just not as commonly known as Princess Leia. We both liked that it was a bit more unique and agreed to it. Mara jade came home with us that day and was loved on by both of us right away. Mara Jade - Ragdoll Kitten of the Month We now spend our time watching her play, sleep, eat, and sleep some more. She actually slept so much the first week, that as new kitty parents we got nervous and took her to the vet to make sure that she was ok! The vet basically laughed us out and sent us home with a pamphlet that was titled “Is This An Emergency?” Mara Jade - Ragdoll Kitten of the Month One of Mara’s favorite places to sleep is in between the sofa and the chaise lounge. She will stretch out and make herself really long looking. We call her a ‘hotdog’ when she does this! Mara also enjoys sleeping/being a ‘hotdog’ in my arms. She will totally live up to her floppy cat roots and stretch out across my body while I hold her like a baby in my arms. It is very comical and my husband and I have a hard time keeping our laughs quiet when she does this so we don’t wake her up. Mara Jade - Ragdoll Kitten of the Month 5 Being our one and only darling child, Mara has many toys. In fact, we have to keep most of them put away because if they are all out at once, she gets overwhelmed and goes off to sleep somewhere. We learned that its best if we keep only a few toys out at one time. Right now, Mara’s favorite toys are jingle balls. She loves to chase them around and carry them in her mouth. She’s a sucker for any kind of long rope, ribbon, or string wand toy too. One of her more advanced toys is called the “the tower of fun.” My husband had ordered it for her and I told him that she wouldn’t play with it until she was older. Well, I was wrong because she figured out what to do with it right away. I’m sure most cats probably figure out how this toy works quickly, too, but that didn’t stop us from ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ about what a smart girl she was! Mara Jade - Ragdoll Kitten of the Month 6 Mara Jade has brought so much joy into our lives the short time we have had her. We constantly question why we didn’t do this sooner because it has been such a great experience all around. We can’t wait to watch her grow into the big beautiful cat she is going to be and look forward to all of the memories we are going to make together as a family of three… at least until we decide she needs a kitty sibling!
