Life’s Abundance Wet Cat Food
No two cats are the same, and that applies to food tastes as much as it does to their look and their personality. One of your cats might love something that another of your cats hates.
It’s always important to remember that when you read a review of a cat food – look for the scientific benefits, but understand that even the ‘best’ cat foods might not be right for your own feline.
Life’s Abundance wet cat food was recommended to me by a reader, so I ordered some and presented it to Charlie and Trigg. Charlie loved it, Trigg ate it. But my parents’ 16-year old Ragdoll cats, Caymus and Murphy weren’t interested.

Is Life’s Abundance a good cat food?
It was during a discussion about Ziwi Peak cat food that my reader mentioned that he feeds his cats Life’s Abundance. He pointed out that it’s on the recommended list of canned foods from Dr. Jean Hofve DVM, and he found out about it through an interview that I’d actually conducted with Dr. Jean a while back.
She has a list of foods that she approves of in her eBook, ‘What Cats Should Eat’, but she’s also shared her opinion of Life’s Abundance in this article. She describes it as “the highest quality, lowest-carb, cat-friendliest canned food available”.
To be clear, the article refers to ‘Instinctive Choice’ cat food, which is one of two variants sold on the Life’s Abundance website. However, they are essentially the same, just in different flavors – Dr. Jean talks about them together, but when you shop on the website, you’ll see one is branded as Instinctive Choice and the other is branded as Life’s Abundance.
Whether you choose the organic chicken, turkey, liver, and shrimp Instinctive Choice flavor or the pork and duck Life’s Abundance flavor that I ordered, Dr. Jean recommends them as part of a balanced diet. By that, she states that you should make sure there is variety in what your cat eats so that they get all the nutrients they need.
The reason Dr. Jean recommends Life’s Abundance Pork & Duck is because it is a natural source of proteins and fats, which are the key metabolic needs of a healthy cat.
One of the reasons I chose the pork and duck flavor to try out are because, in Chinese medicine, pork and duck are considered cold meats. Cold meats don’t cause inflammation in the gut, which can help if your cat has gastrointestinal issues.
In terms of what it contains, the pork and duck cans have a minimum of 12% protein and 5% fat, as well as up to 1% fiber.
This is a very high level of protein and so it may not be suited to any cats with chronic kidney disease (CKD). As Dr. Jean states, you should always go through any dietary changes with your vet if your pet suffers from an illness and they might recommend against high-protein foods such as Life’s Abundance.
There’s a lot of moisture in these cans too, which is really important in keeping your cat’s digestive system healthy and their stools regular, especially since cats will normally only decide to drink from a bowl when they are already dehydrated.
It also contains Vitamin E, another essential vitamin for your cat that helps to protect against problems with their muscles, heart and liver.

You won’t find Life’s Abundance cat food in any physical stores, nor is it available for purchase on any major e-retailer such as Amazon or Chewy.

Is Life’s Abundance grain-free?
Life’s Abundance wet cat food doesn’t contain any grains, and it doesn’t contain fruits or vegetables either. Cats don’t need carbohydrates as part of their diet, but they do need a little bit of fiber. Life’s Abundance does include small amounts of fiber, but it is primarily a protein-based food.
There are no artificial colors or preservatives in Life’s Abundance – it is completely natural cat food.

FAQs:
Is Life’s Abundance an MLM?
Yes – Life’s Abundance is an MLM.
While MLMs generally have a bad reputation and with good cause, sometimes they offer high-quality products. As a customer, you don’t need to sign up for anything to place an order, but if you use the URL of a distributor, then you’ll help to support them, and the prices are the same whether you order from the regular website or a distributor’s version.
Life’s Abundance is a BBB A+ accredited business since 2005. The products were formulated by Dr. Jane Bicks, DVM, a renowned vet formerly the President of the Veterinary Medical Associated of New York City.
Hi, I’m Jenny Dean, creator of Floppycats! Ever since my Aunt got the first Ragdoll cat in our family, I have loved the breed. Inspired by my childhood Ragdoll cat, Rags, I created Floppycats to connect, share and inspire other Ragdoll cat lovers around the world,
I’d like to try Life’s Abundance canned for my rescue kitties but the website says it’s not available 🙁
Yes, they haven’t had it since around the pandemic.
Hi Jenny, I have several cases of the Instinctive Choice – chicken, turkey flavor. My kitties no longer eat it due to medical issues and need a special diet. I was on the auto ship so continued to get it through the pandemic. If there is anyone who needs it, I would like to sell it to recoup some of the cost. Otherwise my plan is to donate it to a shelter.

Hi Mary Jo, I would put it for sale on your Facebook marketplace in your town or on Craig’s List in your town. No shipping that way. Sorry about the medical issues – what happened with your kitties?
She developed Epi and became inappetent and just went off likening it and we couldn’t get her back on it. She now has struvite crystals as well but no bacteria. She absolutely will not eat the prescription diet and I don’t blame her such low quality ingredients with one or 2 useful ones. Do you have any experience with the crystals and alternative ways to treat?
I do not. I do know dry food is terrible for them and so many other things. Pam of Purrrfectly Holistic might have some ideas – you can do a complete health analysis with her.
Hi Jenny,
My two Raggies ‘inhale’ Life’s Abundance Pork & Duck / Chicken,Turkey & Shrimp. Both products are very consistent. The amount of moisture in the can seems perfect to me.
I use Life’s Abundance Auto Ship. By doing so the shipping charge is a flat fee no matter how many cases I buy. ( A money saver) I usually order 4 cases, 2 and 2.
Delivery is extremely prompt.
On occasion I’ve had to call Life’s Abundance Customer Support with an order or website question. The Reps have been wonderful, polite, informative and solved my ‘problem’.
What about product recalls ? Life’s Abundance has never had a recall in 22 years, but what makes their business model unique, if they ever had to recall my cat food they know exactly how to contact me since they sold directly to me. I like that.
My entire experience with Life’s Abundance has been excellent. I highly recommend.
My Kiki has been eating Life’s Abundance for years. I started him on this food after reading the original article from Dr. Hofve. I started with the Chicken variety and soon realized that he didn’t really like it all that much and would often leave it in his bowl. In addition I feed him the grain free dry kibble as he is a dry food addict. Thankfully my kitty drinks lots of water to compensate. I also tried the turkey heart treats, which he absolutely loved, but unfortunately they are just too rich and he would get diarrhea. So they are not on the menu anymore. I do give him the Healthy Skin and Coat Treats in addition to Spry Ocular Treats that contain L-lysine for his feline herpes. If I remember right Dr. Hofve also recommended Aeura for feline herpes and he gets a crushed up pill on top of his dry food daily. Long story short, Kiki loves the Pork and Duck wet food. I mix some rehydrated Whole Life chicken in with it and he is HAPPY. I highly recommend Life’s Abundance.
(I will try and upload a photo to Facebook.)
Thank you for sharing – I love that he loves the Pork and Duck. Please know, I have learned over the years that water drinking does not make up for the dry food consumption, unfortunately.
