Jeter – Ragdoll Kitten of the Month
Jeter – Ragdoll Kitten of the Month
Hello, my name is Debra. I have always loved cats! Grew up with a Siamese and then adopted an orange tabby after college who was with me for over 10 years and several moves. When I met my husband we ended up with dogs, a lot of BIG DOGS and there just never seemed to be a good time to introduce a kitten into the household.
This past year brought some changes that would make us rethink that. With our son going off to college it seemed to be the right time to get a kitty back in the house and also help me ease the transition to being an empty-nester. I started researching what cats were good with other pets (BIG DOGS) and I though a Ragdoll would do well with our current large lab crosses. I was pretty sure I wanted a male (for size) and I have always liked the look of the lighter cats, blue, lilac, etc. Just wasn’t sure if I wanted a bi-color, lynx or point pattern.
Once I decided on a Ragdoll, I then began a pretty exhaustive search of breeders both nationally and locally. I wasn’t crazy about having a kitten shipped, but I also really wanted to get a kitten on or around the holidays as we would definitely have more time to spend getting the kitten socialized. As an added benefit our son would be home on college break for a month and get the opportunity to spend time with his replacement.
Timing was everything and I took my time until I found the right kitten at the right breeder. There was such a variety of price points out there, but I discovered Beyond the Valley Ragdolls in Baldwin Wisconsin which is about an hour and a half from our home. I had several conversations with the owner Sue to pick the perfect new addition to our family, a blue point mink male. Sue kept us updated along the way with pictures and what kitty was up to until he was able to come home. We are huge baseball fans; in fact our son plays college baseball so with dogs named Hank and Erin, (our BIG hitters) it only made sense to add an infielder. “Jeter” was born on September 27, 2015 and came home to us on December 19th!
Jeter is a real lover boy. He just loves giving and getting kisses and thinks it is great fun to help mom work on her computer. He can usually be found on Mom’s desk on or around her keyboard, laptop or on the floor near her feet under the desk. He is a true “floppy cat” and likes to be held like a baby on his back and have his belly rubbed/scratched.
He is VERY curious and likes to crawl up in front of the TV and bat at it. His other favorite thing is to supervise baths. Whether by the faucet or at mom’s head he is always present at bath time. He’s taken a couple of inadvertent dips in the tub, but keeps coming back for more. He enjoys waking me up with kisses and can usually be found sleeping on top of the pillows at my head or on my feet.
Jeter loves to play with his toys, but is equally happy playing with an empty water bottle or box! He has been an awesome addition to our household and is growing like a weed. At 4 months he is over 6 months and well on his way to being a big boy like his daddy 20+ pounds! He is my buddy and helps offset missing my son.

Okay, the line about your son being able to spend time with his replacement made me spit out my water! So funny! Jeter is just adorable. You must love having him being a velcro kitty- that’s just the best, isn’t it? As a SF Giants fan, I would have named him Brandon, but Jeter is a great name, too! Thanks for sharing your beautiful baby!
