The Kurgo K9 Rucksack is a new not-yet-on-the-market backpack-shaped pet carrier for cats and small dogs. Kurgo is running a Kickstarter campaign for the Kurgo K9 Rucksack™ before they bring it to market. So, if you’re interested in it, you can get in on the action early and snag a good deal on the Kurgo. But before you do, here’s more about it:
The Kurgo K9 comes with all the utilities of a state-of-the-art backpack and a very modern design.
What Makes the Kurgo K9 Awesome for Pets
The Kurgo K9 is suited for small dogs, but also for cats. It has a capacity of up to 25 lbs and a 44L interior. It features a spacious padded interior for the pet and mesh with a steady zipper on top. This way, pets can pop out their heads at the top opening. The backpack is perfect for walking and hiking with your pet. It has a removable and washable pad that makes the interior very comfortable.
What makes this backpack extremely useful is that it is also a very safe option for cats. By closing the top mesh, the cat can stay inside safely and still get to enjoy the view. The interior is properly ventilated through the top mesh, as well as the back mesh padding.
For cat owners who want their cats head’s out of the backpack, the Kurgo K9 has a very neat safety measure. It has a swivel tether inside that can be hooked to a collar or harness. So, even if the cat tries to jump out of the backpack, it will be secured inside.
In fact, the biggest disadvantage of backpack pet carriers is lack of safety. But the Kurgo K9 offers a very solid solution to this issue. The tether is suited for cat and dog leashes and collars and it can prevent unwanted accidents.
What Makes the Kurgo K9 Awesome for Pet Owners
Standard pet carriers can be quite heavy, and pet strollers can be rather uncomfortable because they are too large. With a backpack pet carrier, not only is it much easier to carry your pet for long distances, but you can actually take your dog or cat with you anywhere, even on long walks or hikes.
Aside from the boost in usability, the Kurgo K9 Rucksack is also a very fashionable option for a backpack. It also comes with an extensive list of features. It has a laptop sleeve in the interior, where you can store your computer safely, as well as a tablet pocket in the back.
It comes equipped with a bottle opener, utility rings, a front storage pocket, and a waterproof bottom. It also has a sternum strap, gunmetal hardware, and top buckles so that you can roll up the rucksack top and the mesh window.
How to Use the Kurgo K9 Rucksack for Cats
The safest way to use the Kurgo K9 as a cat carrier is to keep the top mesh closed at all times. That way you will never have to worry about your cat jumping out because the backpack has a very steady zipper on the mesh.
By hooking the tether inside to the cat’s collar or harness, you cat has a limited range of motion. This also ensures that s/he will not be able to jump out of the backpack. If you want your cat to have its head out, you can open the top mesh only partially.
Right now, Kurgo is raising funds to manufacturer this backpack through a Kickstarter campaign. Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform where people/businesses can ask people to help fund their project by presenting the project. If you like the project, you can pledge money (back it) to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when time expires and you will get what you backed once it has been manufactured.

Hi, I’m Jenny Dean, creator of Floppycats! Ever since my Aunt got the first Ragdoll cat in our family, I have loved the breed. Inspired by my childhood Ragdoll cat, Rags, I created Floppycats to connect, share and inspire other Ragdoll cat lovers around the world,
I’m Jenny Dean, and I am pictured here with my two Ragdoll cats, Charlie and Trigg. I met my first Ragdoll when I was 3 years old. Christmas 1989 my parents gifted my brothers and me, two Ragdoll kittens – Rags and Cosby. Rags, who lived 19 years, is the reason why I started Floppycats in 2008. Continue reading about me here.
