The Premium Pet is online pet product store that specializes in premium pet products, in other words, they only feature top quality pet products.
Thank you, Anne, for the interview.
1. How old were you when you got your first pet? Was it a cat or a dog or something else?
My first pet was a black lab named Pepper when I was 5 years old. However during my childhood I had 4 dogs, 1 chinchilla, 2 white mice, 1 horse and more gerbils and fish than I can count! I can definitely say that I have always been an animal lover.
2. How did you come up with the Premium Pet name? Did it take you awhile to figure out what the name should be?
The Premium Pet name came after lots and lots of brainstorming! My husband and I actually created the company together, and at first we were operating under a different name. Then, a family member suggested The Premium Pet and we were sold!
3. How do you go about finding products to feature?
There are so many wonderful and well designed pet products out on the market today! We find the products featured on our site through a variety of sources including attending pet industry trade shows throughout the country, trade magazines and blogs. We are also lucky that many wonderful companies contact us directly about selling their products on our site. We are always on the lookout for the next great product to add.
4. What criteria does a product have to have in order to be sold on your site?
All the products sold on The Premium Pet must be functional, durable and extremely high quality. In addition, we really search out products that are well designed and can truly add to a home’s décor. We want our customers to be excited about leaving their pet’s bed out when guests are over.
5. Do you have some personal product favorites? What are they?
I love so many of the products that we have on our site – and so do my dogs Ingrid and Sloan. Both Ingrid and Sloan have coordinating Harry Barker Chelsea Dog Collars and Leashes. The design is so simple but they are bright and fun for summer. Both of our dogs also have West Paw Organic Dog Beds. The design is simple but I love that they are eco-friendly and our dogs can really curl up in them. I also love the sleek, modern design of their Doca Dog Bowls. If we had a cat, I’d definitely be purchasing the Square Cat Habitat Acacia Cat Tree. It is by far the chicest scratching furniture I have ever seen.
6. Do you think that there are a lot of products that are great for both dogs and cats?
I do think that there are a ton of great products out there. Currently, I think there are more products catering toward dogs versus cats, but I think new cat products are coming out every day.
7. Do you have a list of products that you could recommend to someone that is getting their first kitten? I have a lot of visitors that are sometimes getting their very first pet.
I think every pet deserves their own bed and the Jax and Bones Napper Cat Bed is a great first bed. I love the unique shape, the plush fabric and the fact that it includes eco-friendly filling. Another great option for making sure your new kitten feels safe and secure is the Bowsers Buttercup Bed. It comes in a variety of colors and patterns. If you are worried about new kitten scratching your furniture, the Square Cat Habitat Lo Floor Scratcher is a stylish solution to a very real issue. If you plan on traveling with your cat, the Sleepypod Mini is the most versatile pet carrier on the market. It is designed for travel by air and car as well as serve as a bed when you are home. Cats were worshipped in ancient Egypt, so I love the design inspiration for Unleashed Life’s Cairo Cat Bowls. They are sure to add a little bit of glamour to your room. Finally, the Yep Yup Flare Cat Collar features a fun pattern, a bell and a breakaway safety feature.
8. What pets do you personally have right now? Do they product test things before they are sold on thepremiumpet.com?
I currently have two dogs. Sloan (7) is a Jack Russell Terrier and Ingrid (3) is an Italian Greyhound. Although they don’t get to try out every product before it goes on our site, we do love switching out their collars and bowls on a frequent basis. However, when we do let them test out products we try to take photos!
