How to Hold a Kitten

A lot of first time kitten owners wonder how to hold a kitten – in fact, one of the frequent requests that I have received for the 2012 revisions of A Ragdoll Kitten Care Guide: Bringing Your Ragdoll Kitten Home is to have photos of how to hold your Ragdoll kitten.  So I reached out to my cousin, Jill, who recently adopted a Ragdoll kitten named Huck.  Thank you Jilly for these photos! Below are the photos she sent over.  How do you hold your cat?  I want to see photos and share with others – please submit photos of how you hold your cat.

  1. Hi Jenny

I have struggled to pick up cats all my life. When picking them up, do you hold their feet together at the back or is it just there bottom ?

    Thanks

    1. Not sure if I totally follow. This video shows me picking up both of my cats:

Every cat is different – you kind of have to figure out how they like to be held.

  2. Last August I adopted a kitty from Friends of Felines in Salem, OR. My sweet heart of 59 1/2 years died in Nov 2011 and I wanted a companion. He is the most wonderful loving kitten. He has more than doubled in size. and he is beautiful. I know he has to be a mix, but he looks so much like one of the cream with brown points and a huge bushy tail. He is playful and loveable, when not sleeping. His name is Yoda. My daughter Denise was his foster Mommy.

    1. Love his name! Sounds like you got a good one! Sorry to hear about your sweetheart.
