Happy July 4th to You and Your Kitties!

I know we have many readers not in the USA or not from the USA – but this American wants to wish you and your kitties a Happy 4th of July!  Heck, it seems fit to celebrate the United States of America’s birthday given that without it, a Ragdoll cat wouldn’t exist!  In other words, since the breed is American created, it seems right to celebrate it on the blog!  Here’s an adorable photo from retired breeder, Peg of Meriwidoz Ragdolls!

Charlie and Trigg really hate fireworks – they growl and run around the house.  It’s not a fun night for them or for me – but as a child I certainly enjoyed it.  My Rags never seemed bothered by fireworks.  How about your kitties?

two of my cats are ok with the firecracker noise, my grey tabby is terrified of them. what makes me the most angry is that people get away with shooting off the illegal bombs and bottle rockets. they have a law here on the time you can shoot them off and what is illegal but they don’t reinforce any of it. i called the police last year and complained and a cop came to my house and started with this crap about people having the right to have fun. i read the law to him, from the police department site (i called when some moron next door was shooting off those m80s and cherry bombs BEFORE the law said you could even shoot off any fireworks) and i pointed out as well that the ones he was shooting off were illegal. i asked “what about the rights of animals not to be terrified every year? what about the people with ptsd from war and living in warring countries?” (i live in an area where there are many refugees that have come from war torn countries). it wasn’t as bad this year, people didn’t start early but there were bombs last night and me and another woman went out and confronted 3 idiots across the street. they were grown men that acted like 12 year olds. she was very nice and tried to be diplomatic. i wasn’t. i told them if i heard it again i would call the cops. and i did. and they wouldn’t come. they were only responding to fires and injuries related to the fireworks. i’m sure they knew that they wouldn’t come. i enjoy seeing the fireworks at the parks and i always like sparklers. but i always think about all the animals that are traumatized by the noise just so we can “have fun”. to me they should be outlawed all together and we should celebrate with meditation en masse and pray that we can find a way to enlighten ourselves before it’s too late. to me that would be much more productive.

yes, after seeing my cats frightened of the noises and unable to eat for hours, i no longer enjoy this holiday.

that just breaks my heart. i had a dog once that jump through a glass window she was so terrified of the fireworks. she didn’t come home for 3 days and when she did she still had glass in her nose. how is this fair? we are such a heartless and selfish lot. everything is about us and what we want. i feel ashamed sometimes to even be a part of the species. i think next year i may take my cats to a motel somewhere. i did try the fans and had my computer on loud with youtube birdies but my little grey tabby ran behind the couch and just shook. it was too loud with those bombs, i couldn’t drown it out.

on july 4, i was driving and this dog was running in a parking lot – no doubt from fireworks – i couldn’t get it to stop. it was someone’s pet. i hope they got him back home.

Dusty and Stormy don’t seem to be bothered by the fireworks – Denali seems a bit startled when the big ones go off, but he doesn’t get freaked out. I make sure I have the tv or radio on, and this year I have the drone of the air conditioner since we’re dying in the heat in Seattle!

And a very HAPPY 4th of July to you and your kitties, Jenny! And, of course, a very HAPPY 4th of July to all the wonderful and lovely Floppycat Readers and Their Kitties, too! 🙂 <3

Lurve the pic from Peg! I saw this on her FB page the other day! Such a gorgeous pic of one of her many, many BEAUTIFUL Ragdolls! Look at that little choochi face! Gah! So cute!

We are very lucky to live in a 55+ adult community apartment complex (because we are OLD!). We get zero firecracker noise on the 4th in our neighborhood! So lovely. So Miss Pink Sugarbelle has never even heard those loud pops and everything. YAY!!!!

    Big hugs!

    Patti & Miss Pink Sugarbelle 🙂 <3

Happy 4th of July to you, Jenny, and to all the Ragdoll fans! My kitties hate the loud noises, too. They go under the bed of hide in other nooks and crannies.
