Happy Father’s Day to All the Cat Dads Out There!
Happy Father’s Day to All the Cat Dads Out There!
This is my dad with Trigg when I first brought Trigg home – I was taking a photo to send to my mom, I think and my dad was less than thrilled to be posing with a cat. Ha.
My dad “hated” cats and always told my mom to tell the kids he was allergic as he didn’t want to have a cat. However, I kept begging for one, so my mom had her parents get me my first Ragdoll as a birthday present – Skittles. Skittles died of FIP when he was 2, so I can’t say that he made my dad love cats, but I can say he started the path. Rags was the one that made my dad love cats.
My dad has been a great dad when it comes to the cats in my life. One of my most vivid memories was one night he came into my room to give me a kiss goodnight and Rags was on the bed. He gave Rags a kiss on the head as well and said, “that’s one of the most beautiful animals I have ever seen.” As a little girl, I was so proud that I had such a beautiful cat and that my dad thought so too.
Of course, my dad went with me when it was time to do the deed with Rags too – and I’ll never forget it. Nice to have him there.
If you could see my dad interact with Caymus it is the best thing in the world. Caymus has got my dad wrapped around his paw. It’s awesome – but there’s just something about filming the process that I find a violation to their relationship, so more than likely, it will never be seen on video. Also, just hearing my dad tell us stories about how Caymus has chosen to interact with him, is too great. But trust me when I say it is a thing of beauty.
Happy Father’s Day to my dad – I love you for loving cats and for loving and honoring my love for them.
Hi, I’m Jenny Dean, creator of Floppycats! Ever since my Aunt got the first Ragdoll cat in our family, I have loved the breed. Inspired by my childhood Ragdoll cat, Rags, I created Floppycats to connect, share and inspire other Ragdoll cat lovers around the world,
What a great picture Jenny. It makes me smile thinking about your dad giving Rags a little kiss. That’s what people with big hearts do.

yes, i loved the difference between my dad’s big hands and holding that little chiggy body.
great story jenny. my dad didn’t like cats either and i had several growing up and then when my parents got divorced and he moved to new york and was living alone.. he got a cat and he loved her dearly and always told me stories about her. i was really surprised that he had a cat but i was proud that i had some influence in him converting. i did that with a bf i had too. he didn’t care for cats and then he met me and i had 2 at the time and we lived together for 6 years and now he is a cat lover. one at a time… we can change the whole world into cat lovers that discover all that they have missed. happy fathers day to all the wonderful men out there that love cats. they are the best!!
yes, one man and one cat at a time.
