Do Your Cats Like Sticks?

Ragdoll cats are known to be “dog-like” cats, so I guess the fact that my cats are into sticks is normal.  Charlie, in fact, meows when we are outside meows for me to play with the stick so that he can chase it around he yard.  I just drag it along the grass and he chases after it.  He is so into it that now Trigg likes the game.  Here are some photos I took of them yesterday, playing with the stick!

Trigg loves to bite things – like metal or sides of a box, etc.  So it’s no surprise that he likes biting the stick!

Do your cats like sticks?  Is this normal Ragdoll cat behavior?

My big buddy Magnus, a red long hair, absolutely loves playing with sticks!!! He is an indoor cat, but, we walk him on a leash & harness. We rescued him from under a porch in Miami, Florida; maybe that’s where he got the ‘taste’ for sticks! I noticed him playing with a little stick (that was being used for an art project) on the front porch, so I brought one inside for him; and it was on!!! I brought him a stick that was about 7 feet long, put it on the floor, and he proceeded to rub his face down the whole length on both sides, then bunny kicked the crap out of it!!! Hilarious!!!

I have a question do you let your cats outside to wander or have them trained to go out with you then follow you in? I let my cat out but he would come in when I called. He was raised with 2 little dogs so he played with them and loved the outdoors and playing with grass and sticks. He obeyed like a dog and I worshiped him he was my world. One morning I let Rainy out, 30 minutes later I heard this barking and it didn’t stop I went to the door and saw two dogs shaking and fighting for something. In my nightie I ran outside and chased the dogs away but it was to late for Rainy, my precious baby boy was gone. I have never grieved for any animal as I have for Rainy now I’m looking for a rescue or unwanted. But I know I will never allow my cat outside again without me. How do you do it?

my back yard is completely fenced in. i go outside with the cats – even when it’s freezing!! i am out there the entire time and when we go inside we go in together. it’s a huge time commitment, but i am aware of the dangers – but also know how happy it makes them. since i feel it is safe enough with me out there, we will continue for now. i would never let them out and then close the door. i would worry forever!!

Yes! Clio loves sticks…we noticed this when I brought home some branches to use as decoration in our home…she bites them, chases them etc. Also, she likes it whent the feathered end falls off of her teaser toys and there is just the stick left!
I’ve never seen this outside the ragdoll realm!! So funny.

No sticks since Lucy is an indoor only furball but she used to play fetch. She’s my puppycat. Oh and the laser pointer drives her wall jumping mad. I love my girl.

I have a pink walking stick that I use when I need to move the cows. I keep the stick in the garage and my two just adore playing with it. They sit and wait for me or hubby to move the stick under the mat and they just go crazy trying to catch it. Schiska does the bunny kick all the time. Next time I take them outside for a play I will get a stick and see what they do.

My Charlie loves to play with long skinny things, especially cardboard tubes, so she can bunny-kick the hell out of them. Similar, I suppose.
