Chief – Ragdoll Kitten of the Month

We lost our 16 year old toy rat terrier, Jenni, last summer and within two weeks, our rescue kitty, Meeko.  I was heartbroken and resolute that I didn’t want another pet.  Our lone rescue cat, Baby Kitty, who is 15 now, was lonely and lost after losing her “siblings”.

About six months ago, my husband saw a short piece on Animal Planet about Ragdoll cats.  He was intrigued and had me watch it.  Of course I was hooked and began my research to learn as much as I could about these cats before deciding if we should get a new cat.  I needed a very social and loving kitten so my existing cat wasn’t so stressed and threatened by a new addition.

“Chief” is the result of my research and many, many emails and phone calls to breeders and referrals.  I settled on a registered breeder who also shows her cats and kittens, Denise Saunders with Regency Rags.  I was able to visit her home, meet her and her cats prior to choosing one of her kittens.  She was very helpful and answered all my questions as well as making sure that I understood the myths about this breed.  They are in fact a cat and not the perfect, non-shedding, no maintenance pet that the hype might indicate.

In the end, what I was looking for and have been able to adopt is a very social, sweet and playful kitten who just happens to be one of the most beautiful cats I’ve ever seen.  I am looking forward to not only enjoying his company and antics for years but also will try my hand in the show ring since he is a show quality alter.  Denise has managed to raise several generations of very accomplished champions and I was lucky enough to adopt a kitten from her “Bruno” which is my favorite male after all my research.  He is a “whole” male who will easily approach strangers and actually laid in my granddaughter’s lap for petting.  This is the perfect example of why I chose this breed and purchased a kitten.  Chief will look very much like his daddy and I am so pleased and excited for what will come in the future both in the show ring and more importantly within our family.  Much thanks to Denise for allowing me to bring him home and to my husband for helping to convince me to open my heart again to a very special kitty.

Chief is a joy and I am continually amazed by his sweetness and loving nature.  As you can tell, I am a true fan of this breed.

I am so pleased to have chosen a Ragdoll cat and love that he is everything I expected and more…
