Cheap Cat Insurance

Share this post:

Trying to find cheap cat insurance can be difficult because it seems like most pet insurance policies that cover anything cost at least $20 a month.

While $20 a month does not sound like a lot, if your cat lives for 15 years, that adds an additional $3,600 to the cost of owning just one cat.

As you can see, if you can find a way to just save a few dollars a month, the savings can be significant simply because you have to make monthly payment for years and years.

Luckily there are ways to find cheap cat insurance policies. By using some of the strategies described here you should not have any trouble knocking down your monthly price.

Multiple Pet Discount

Almost all pet insurance companies offer a 5 to 10% discount if you simply insure more than one pet with them. This alone can be a significant savings. This discount can be used by almost all pet owners, because over 90% of pet owners have more than one pet.

Microchip Discount

A microchip is a permanent form of identification for your pet and in most cases it entitles you to another 5 to 10% discount. Insurance companies do this because it saves them money. In most policies there is a payment for lost pet recovery services, and if your pet is microchipped, the odds of quick recovery are much greater.

Get Three Quotes

Another great way to find cheap cat insurance is to make sure you get at least three quotes from different companies. Just by doing this you will see that the price of policies varies quite a bit.

Remember, when asking for an insurance quote, to ask for the same level of deductible on all three policies, as this makes them easier to compare.

Obviously the higher the deductible you choose, the lower your monthly payment is. Most people decide to go with a higher deductible, but this is a personal financial decision you have to make on your own.

By using the tips mentioned here you should be able to find a cheap cat insurance policy to meet your needs. Remember even if you save just $5 a month that translates into a $900 savings, if you use our first example above.

  1. I read your latest post asking for comments on pet health insurance; it led me here and I like the suggestions offered above. This is one of a few types of coverage we don’t have, along with flood insurance and long-term care–we are literally “insurance poor”! For a person with just one pet, maybe, especially if the pet is young without pre-existing conditions. Covering our four kitties (two are seniors) would be quite expensive. I have some savings for emergencies which is a better option for me.
