Cats vs. Zuru Robo Fish

Post Published on December 5, 2012 | Last Updated on July 8, 2021 by Jenny

A few months ago, Michael Strange, Floppycats’ reader and Ragdoll cat lover/owner, posted the following video of his kitty Valentino playing with a Zuru Robo Fish online:

I loved it and wanted to have the same toy to test out with Charlie and Trigg.  However, Michael is in Australia and I’m in the USA.  So, Michael and I emailed back and forth about where to buy the Robo Fish.  But I couldn’t find it online anywhere – but those of you who know I am a crazy couponer, know that I am always looking at weekly ads.  And lo and behold, in the CVS circular – there were Robo Fish!

I purchased two of the Zuru Robo Fish at CVS – but I think they might be a special Christmas offering, so hurry!  I have since found them on Amazon – you can buy them individually for $14.90 – but CVS has them for $9.99.

Also, be careful with the tail on the Robo Fish – your kitty can easily pull it off and chew on it.  Charlie pulled it off easily!

I did and I am, Jenny, thank you. Nearly two years since my Moosie passed away… you and your Floppycats have been a real comfort. You can’t possibly know how much joy you and your furry fellows bring to us, your fans and readers, with the cute videos and great stories you post. You and those big beautiful boys truly are our angels! Merry Christmas, Sweet Friend 🙂

I can’t find at my CVS in California! What aisle are they in usually? Of course, I can never find anyone to ask at the store!

I am sorry to hear of your frustration! I am glad you still want to try and find them.

Yes, every CVS is supposed to have them (afterall, it’s in their ad) but they don’t – darnit.

I would try a few things – they should be in the seasonal items – where the other seasonal toys are (not the toys in the laundry detergent aisle). You can see what the package looks like in the first video I made above (the one in the middle of the other two). And they are in a box, with the packages in little slots. They are small, about the size of a Silly Putty container.

You can call CVS Corporate – 1-800-SHOP-CVS I think or try 1-800-EXTRACARE or call your local stores and see if the manager can put a few for you on hold behind the counter.

You can also order them online:

Okay, so I saw this post yesterday and had to check them out. I got 2 of them at my local CVS here in Columbia, SC ($9.99 each!) and took them home. I filled up my bath tub with about 2 inches of water and put them in. My 4 girl kitties LOVED THEM!! Of course, 2 of mine had to fall in the water which made a big mess of things, but they dried off quickly and came back for more!

I monitored them for about 10 minutes and then took them out and put them up. I will definitely put them out a few nights a week for the girls. I believe I may have to go get more 🙂

Thanks for such a great find!!

YAY! I love it! Yes, they are $9.99 each across the country at CVS. That’s hilarious that two of your girls fell in – they loved them so much that they got too distracted and fell in.

Yes, I have to get more and expose Murphy and Caymus to them as well!

I picked up 2 more for a total of 4. They are awesome in the bathtub and the kitties LOVE them!! I’m tempted to get the whole set 🙂

The fish look fantastic. I know Scooter would spend hours trying to get one. I will look for them around here. Your kitties are so precious, and it is always nice to see someone else who will let their cats play on the counter!

    • Jenny says:

Jobi – let me know if you get one for Scooter to play with – unfortunately because of the Robo fish tail situation, I do not think I would leave Charlie alone with it, unless I wanted to pay $1500 for surgery =(.
