Cat Power Tower Modern Cat Tree Review with Ragdoll Cat TriggCat Power Tower Modern Cat Tree Review

Original review: Oct 2, 2013

UPDATE! April 21, 2015

We’ve had the Cat Power Tower for some time now.  We review a lot of products and live in a small house, so I certainly can’t and don’t keep everything that we review.  However, the Cat Power Tower will probably be one that stands the test of time…in other words, it’s not going anywhere.

I did a video to show you what it looks like today – however, if you follow us on our Facebook page or our YouTube channel, for example, you will see it often.  The cats are on it frequently and daily.

It’s easy to vacuum and clean – and looks nearly as good as the day we got it – the sisal on the scratching post has held up well and so has the carpet – with the exception of some fraying, but I can cut that off to make it look nice again.  That’s also to be expected with cat claws.

Many Floppycats’ readers have written to me to tell me how much they like it as well as their cats!

Original review is posted below.  Enjoy!

——–

The Cat Power Tower is much more than a modern cat tree – it is like a cat super station.  As you can see in the videos below, it comes standard with three different platforms, a 32″ high scratching post fit with a carousel and a 27″ sisal scratching board.

Perhaps the coolest thing about the Cat Power Tower is the one feature where you can set the tower in the “automatic” setting, where the spring board turns the tower on and off by the cats jumping on and off of it.  If you watch the review video, you will see how this happens.  It’s rad.

I ended up making a list of things I wanted to cover in our final review YouTube video, and thought it might be fun to just post that list here since it covers what I like about the product.

  1. Well Made/Quality Materials – it’s heavy and sturdy and I love the inter-locking parts.  I was so impressed while putting it together – which you can see in the arrival video below.
  2. Multiple Platforms – As you can see in the photo, there are 3 platforms.  The Hunting Platform and then two carpet platforms.  On the Hunting Platform, you can put treats and toys in the holes for the kitties to fish out.  The Carpet Platforms can be removed to be vacuumed, cleaned and you can store toys underneath the top one.  Since the carpet platform “lid” can be removed, it leaves a “box” for your kitty to lay in.  So if you have a kitty that likes “lips” on their beds, then you could just permanently remove the lid and put a blanket in there.  We received a few comments by folks that watched the arrival video and were concerned about the safety of the Hunting Platform.  We never had an issue with it – but honestly, if the pads are positioned where both of them are located at the front edge of the Hunting Platform, it’s virtually impossible for cats to hit the exposed holes when exiting the tower as they are tucked below the Play Platform (see review video below where I touch on this).
  3. Scratching Options – As you know, I am not a fan of carpet scratchers, so it is nice that there is a cylinder scratching post that is 32″ high. The Woven Sisal Scratching Board 27″ High Board is another place for your kitty to scratch.
  4. Powered Carousel – Located on top of the cylinder scratching post, in the photo there is a bird carousel.  But it can be switched out with other carousel options: feather teasers, including realistic furry mice and scrunch balls.
  5. Size – It’s a great size for large breed cats.
  6. All-in-One – if you live in a small space or an apartment and are looking for one cat toy that does it all
  7. Customizable – if you contact Andy, the creator, he can substitute platforms, make them out of sisal and more.  Order it just how you’d like for it to be.

It took me about 1 hour to put it together, but that might have to do with the fact that I was filmming while doing so.  Andy, the creator of the Cat Power Tower has a video on YouTube of how to put it together, but it also comes with great visual instructions on how to do so.

I have been pleasantly surprised by how much the cats are on it – they love it – both of them.

Pat the Cat runs Cat Power Tower’s Facebook page and does the most hilarious of posts – definitely worth following Cat Power Tower on Facebook.

Right now, Cat Power Tower is being offered at $100 OFF!  Just order through their website.

  1. Hi, Jenny!

Great cat tower! Gorgeous and functional! And, what a great sale! $100 off! Woo-hoo!

Saving my money and adding this to my “Big Items For Pink Sugar Wish List.” 🙂

I’ve seen this tower in so many of your review videos lately and it looks AWESOME!

Thanks for another great review! Appreciate your efforts in sharing all these wonderful items with your readers!

Best wishes for a wonderful rest of the week to you and your fellas!

    Patti & Pink Sugar 🙂 <3

  2. Hi Jenny!
That was some great review!!! Your boys had me laughing so much. It looks like a wonderful cat furniture piece. The only thing I’m squeamish about is the bottom platform with those holes and wonder how the base will hold them running and jumping at high speed. When my girls start chasing each other, all reason is gone and they rip and tear – bouncing off walls and their cat tree that is 100 pds + with a really wide base. Did you find that it wobbles at all or would tip over with them pushing off it?
Wish I could get one sometime, but can’t at the moment as things are a little tight with the freeze and uncertainty. The $100 off is a great buy though. Maybe Santa will bring my girls one. Thank you for taking the time to do this review. As always, it was great.

    1. thanks, teresa! it was a lot of work to do this review!

“Did you find that it wobbles at all or would tip over with them pushing off it?” – no and no.

as i pointed out in the review video, you can always do something other than the hunting platform – call andy and have a chat. he’s great and can give you options. you might also enjoy reading through the testimonials on the site – http://catpowertower.com/customerphotoscomments.html

you can also do a layaway plan on paypal!

      1. Actually the Pay Pal option is not a layaway as you get the Cat Power Tower right away. Then you get 6 months to pay with no finance charges.

  3. We love ours! We have had it since they first came out and if it can withstand us, especially zoomie Duleek, then it can withstand any other kittehs. He usually hits it FULL speed and then flies back off of it like a spring board. It is right in front of a big window too, but it never moves or even rocks! The SDR Kittehs recommend it. If our Momma wasn’t so lame, she would take videos too. xoxoxo Missy Mouse and the SDR Clan

  4. Hi Jenny!I enjoyed reading your review on this 3 tier cat tower and also watched the video showing you putting it together. I would like to purchase it and you indicated that if I put in the promotional code “floppycats” it would get a 10%discount. I didn’t work, but I’ll try to call the company. I’m sure your rags are loving it. Is Charlie a blue mitted rag or seal mitted rag?

    1. Hi Dolly,

Sorry for your troubles. I have reached out to CPT to see what the deal is with the code. However, it would probably be best for you to contact the Cat Power Tower directly to discuss the purchase.

I will update the post, if the code no longer works, though, when I hear back from them.

They might not have stock right now either. Not sure – so that’s why it is best to directly communicate with them.

      Thanks,
      Jenny

P.S. Charlie is a seal mitted with a hourglass blaze.

      1. I’m going to call Andy about the power tower on Monday and will let you know what he says about that discount.. I am still debating about different cat trees that don’t take up too much space, still look really nice, and are stable. We don’t have a separate living room in our town house, just a great room that has a dining and living area.We would be placing the tree at the end of the living area in front the the sliding glass doors, so want an average size tree. I also like the appearance of the lotus style tree which has darker wood, but wonder if it would be stable. Some reviewers comment it is shaken. Any other comments? Thanks agin for your prompt reply.

      2. I do not have the Lotus cat tree made by the Refined Feline, so I do not know how stable it is. The Cat Power Tower is very stable…although in my videos you’ll see it wobble because my house was built in 1940 and the floors are not level, therefore the CPT is not on level ground, so it wobbles when the cats jump on it. NOt the fault of the CPT though – but rather the fault of my floor. Regardless, my cats don’t think twice about it and use it daily. Andy wrote me today and told me he reactivated the code. Thanks, Jenny

  5. Has anyone else tried the Cat Pleaser Teaser from Andy at Cat Power Tower?! (that’s a mouthful!!)

    http://www.catpowertower.com/newcatpleaserteaser.html

I got one for Prossimo and it is a HUGE hit. That spring wand is brilliant. I do hope in the future Andy makes one with a longer spring as Prossimo is so intense when batting at it I often feel the “wind” from his giant paws as they blow by me in an attempt to decimate the faux fur foe!!

They are incredibly well priced and a favorite over here – they’re quite the steal!

  6. WOW! This cat tree is a workhorse for sure! It looks really great for being almost 2 years old! Impressive! Thanks for the great update video and information, Jenny!

    Big hugs!

    Patti & Miss Pink Sugarboo 🙂 <3

  7. Hi Jenny…even though I wont be getting my ragdolls till 8 May, I recently purchased a Cat Power Tower based on your review. Please note that the original design has changed from your version. The base is now a one piece 24×24 instead of 2 crossed legs. Also, the scratch post is no longer activated by a hinged platform (it is now motion activated) Finally there is no longer a scratch pad between the posts. According to Andy, the changes were mad based on customer reviews and the crossed legs breaking during shipment. One thing that may not be highlighted in your review is that “Andy” stands behind his product. He is very responsive and provides detail answers to your questions. Most importantly, he quickly fixes any issues or problems with the product. He is very customer oriented. While my kittens have yet to try the Cat Power Tower, I highly recommend the product because of the backend support provided. Sorry about the wordy reply, but this is my 1st post on floppy cats and I just wanted to let you know that I do view and read the your reviews. Thanks.

  8. I already have 1 Mondo Post cat tree/bed and an Angle Scratcher (from Purrfect Post). I’ve read your reviews about the Cat Power Tower. Is the company still in business? I can’t access their website, and nothing has been posted this year on their Facebook page.

  9. Hi there, I have just seen Lyn’s post and I am also having trouble locating the website. I would love to buy one for my two babies, Custard and Luna but we are based in the UK. I notice that Amazon.com are selling them but they do not ship to the UK. If anyone has any information for UK we would really appreciate it :-). Thanks.

  10. Hi Jenny,

We are waiting for our two Ragdoll kittens to come of age, so we can bring them home from the breeder. In the meantime, my husband is going to build them a cat tree similar to the one you reviewed here (since the company has gone out of business & no longer sells them). I need something with large stable platforms for Ragdolls, and this basic design seems perfect.

I was hoping that you would be willing to share a few of the measurements with me to aid my husband in building our cat tree, since it is hard to judge the size just by watching the video. Would you please consider sharing:

    – The dimensions of the platforms
    – The distance between each platform
    – The distance from the floor to the top of the highest carpeted platform

Thanks in advance for your consideration! 🙂 I LOVE your website and YouTube channel – I am subscribed to everything and have learned so much from you about Ragdolls!

      1. Thanks Jenny – I am glad we are going to build one, the retail price on Amazon was a bit surprising! Interesting to see that they changed the base design. Thanks for your willingness to send the measurements when you have the time, we really appreciate it!

    1. – The dimensions of the platforms
19x19x3 and carpeted lid is 1″
      – The distance between each platform
Bottom platform is 12″ off the ground, second tier is 16″ to the bottom, 20″ to the top, second to third tier is 16″ to bottom and 20″ to top
      – The distance from the floor to the top of the highest carpeted platform 56″

      1. Thank you so much for taking the time to measure the cat tree – I truly appreciate it!

      2. My pleasure – hope you will share the tree your hubby builds from this! Who knows, you might have a new business on your hands!

  11. I will definitely share pics when we are done! He is also building scratching posts with a small top platform modeled after the one you use. I will post pics of everything when it’s ready (including the kittens)!
