Cat Blogger: Pawesome Cats
The Pawesome Cats blog was created in October 2013, and is based ‘down under’ in Australia. We promote responsible pet ownership and provide information and advice to help cat owners live harmoniously with their cats and keep them both happy and healthy.
How did you get interested in cats? How old were you when you had your first kitty?
I’ve been surrounded by cats my entire life. My grandmother had a houseful of cats and my mother loves cats too, so it was only natural that I’d inherit the cat lover gene. My first cat was a ginger male, called “Ginger” – four year olds are not known for their originality.
What made you want to start a cat blog?
There are too many cat owners who give up on their cats and surrender them to shelters because of common behavioural issues. We’ve also met many cat owners who don’t understand the importance of providing basic health care for their pets, their dogs live like kings but their cats are often neglected. The Pawesome Cats blog aims to raise awareness and provide advice on common feline health and behavioural issues and more generally on living with cats. We currently blog 2-3 times a week.
What will a reader find if s/he visits your site?
Unique content on a broad range of cat-related topics – home and family life with cats, health and wellness, behaviour, cat breed profiles and more. We also include product reviews, book reviews and occasional giveaways.
What is your favorite part of your blog and why?
The ‘Health & Wellness’ and ‘Behaviour’ sections which aim to provide practical advice for pet owners. We’re also proud of our recent series on raw feeding cats, which answers some of the questions we had when we first switched to a raw food diet.
What are some of your goals with your cat blog? Any big future plans?
Our goal is simply to continue what we’re doing – helping cat owners care for, understand and enjoy life with their cats by providing well-researched and informative articles on relevant cat-centric topics.
Tell us about your cats, their personalities.
The Pawesome Cats family is made up of three siblings – Charlie, Max and Ava who are four years old, a stepsister – Amber who is 3 ½ and their kitten cousin – Coco. Charlie is a tabby and white mama’s boy; he’s also very affectionate and talkative. His silver tabby brother Max is friendly too, the king of the cat tower and the athlete in the family. Their sister Ava greets me at the front door when I return from work and her favourite playtime activity is chasing the red dot. Redheaded Amber is sweet and gentle and loves to play Da-Bird; curiously her meow is more of a squeak. Cousin Coco is a tabby and white fluffy kitten with bundles of energy and my niece is her best friend.
What has been the most rewarding thing about having a cat blog?
The interaction with our loyal readers is very important to us. Equally rewarding are the friendships we have made in the cat blogging community who are a close-knit and supportive group, whether fundraising for cats in need or providing support for each other when we lose another cat to the Rainbow Bridge or life throws those inevitable curve balls.
