Athena – Ragdoll of the Week
In 2015, I had a 16 year old Burmilla boy who was not well. Also have a British Shorthair boy, now 8, he was going to need a new companion. My husband and I went to a cat show and fell in love with the Rag Dolls. I was referred to a breeder North of Toronto, (Marl Creek). I can’t say enough good things about Charmayne and her family run cattery. Lovely home, well cared for, well socialized, etc.
Apollo had to be put to sleep the very day I was scheduled to call Charmayne. She told me about a blue bi-colour female whose name is Athena. OMG, that was Apollo’s Mother’s name and I started to cry. Certainly seemed like karma, Athena was 2 weeks old, I could come to see her in a few weeks, then bring her home at 12 weeks.
How cute is she, pic at 4 weeks. We went to see her at 6 weeks, found a clean, loving home with lots of cats and kittens. We picked her up, petted her, her Mother, her siblings and various other cats, LOL! She was so sweet as were all the cats. Purrsonality. !!!
The car trip home was uneventful, she was quiet and calm. We got home, she ate and started to play with her new ball. Hanging out with us, purring and playing with every toy we gave her. We introduced her to Mercury slowly, it wasn’t long before they were playing together and sleeping together. You would think a little kitten would be cautious, maybe even frightened of a big male cat. Not Athena, she’s feisty and not afraid of anything. Mercury had to train her a bit to avoid getting nipped, LOL! Aren’t kitten teeth and claws the sharpest?
Athena is a play kitty, she will play with any toy, even chase a piece of her own fur. She loves fetch, run as fast as you can, steeplechase over the boxes and bags in the hallway and chasing the laser light. She also loves her brushing, she doesn’t actually meow, she makes sweet quiet chirps to get your attention and then leads us to the grooming area. Daily, 3X a day or even more, LOL! Good thing we are retired. She also does the adorable silent meow when she wants to be fed. Or very gently, will tap you with her paw. Love it, so cute…
Athena exhibits all the adorable puppy cat traits. She loves to chase balls, have her belly rubbed and follows me everywhere in the house watching what I do. She will sit beside you or at your feet watching television or under the table at dinner.
She loves Christmas with all the wrappings, and especially the lighted tree. She will snooze under there every night. But never rips any of the packages, moves them a bit to make a spot for herself, what a good girl!
Now since this is the Floppy Cats site, let’s see how floppy Athena is, (HINT). Really, really floppy, LOL! She does this every day a few times, stretch every muscle in her body while going upside down. She looks huge, but really isn’t, just very long and furry.
She’s four now, we admire her beauty, laugh and play with her every day. She loves to pose for pictures and seems to get more beautiful all the time, how is that even possible? Never a dull moment with a smart, funny, sweet tempered Rag Doll cat. 🐱

Hi, I’m Jenny Dean, creator of Floppycats! Ever since my Aunt got the first Ragdoll cat in our family, I have loved the breed. Inspired by my childhood Ragdoll cat, Rags, I created Floppycats to connect, share and inspire other Ragdoll cat lovers around the world,
Oh, Wow! My Bicolor Kirby’s dad, Dexter, is the son of a Marlcreek Rag (Marlcreek Mattias). Small world!
She’s a big girl! Kirby is small. I think she has some growing left (she will be 2 years old in September)
Athena is a beautiful name! She seems like a real character 🙂
What an absolutely stunning girl Athena is!!! She’s such a gorgeous example of the breed and a real credit to her breeder. The photo of her posing on the white chair made my heart melt and I do think it’s true that Ragdolls get more beautiful with time. My lilac-point boy FLUFFY is 18 months old and he’s definitely getting more and more handsome by the day.
Thank-you so much for sharing Athena’s photos and her story…
