10 Adorable Ragdoll Cat Names [2023]

Whether you just brought home your first Ragdoll kitten or have been a Ragdoll enthusiast for years, picking a name for your cat can be a challenging experience. Once you choose a name for your pet, it’s best to stick with it to avoid confusing the little critter. Also, remember that your adorable bundle of joy will soon grow into an energetic (sometimes moody) fuzzball, so pick a name that will fit them into adulthood. But this doesn’t mean you can’t get creative when choosing a name for your new friend, and in fact, it’s encouraged! After all, you’re dealing with a breed named “ragdoll” after it tended to relax and go limp when picked up. Here are a few ideas for adorable ragdoll cat names for 2023 to help your pet stand out in the furry crowd.

😻Adorable Ragdoll Cat Names for 2023

1 – Beacon or Tootsie – a name your cat can hear

There is consistent (and adorable) research showing that cats respond better to high-pitched human voices. Cats also respond to names containing the long e-vowel and the “ts” sound you find in “Pizza” and “pets.” Names like Beacon, Dean, Beamer, Tootsie, or Patsie have a bigger chance of getting your cat’s attention, even if it may still choose to ignore you from time to time. 2 – Kailan – a regal name for a regal feline

Ragdolls are known for their gentleness and calmness, elegance, and “royal” distinction. Kailan is an old English word meaning “keeper of the keys,” but you can pull out your history book and dig into more names that reflect your pet’s royal character. Zadie (English, princess), Forba (Scottish, headstrong), Kagen (Irish, thinker). There are quite a few lists of Ragdoll cat names suitable for the absolute master of the house.

3 – Phoebe – paying homage to the classics

At least 163 newborns were named Daenerys before Game of Thrones’ final season took a significant turn. Daenerys is still a name suitable for a feline, but you can look further down the pop-culture lane into some timeless classics. And who wouldn’t want a friend like Phoebe, whose friendly yet aloof demeanor goes hand in hand with her loyalty and loving nature? And if you add a Heisenberg, Sheldon, Draper, Tokyo, and Professor into the mix, you got yourself a great fit for the decade that just started.

4 – Napper – to signal your cat’s unique personality

Another characteristic of Ragdoll cats is how unique each cat’s personality can be. You can always choose a name to reflect your pet’s habits or favorite past times. Other contestants are Snuggler, Puncher, Jumpy-Jack-Flash, or Teacher. Since cats are most responsive to one-syllable names, you will likely end up shorting the title anyway. So Snuggs, Punchy, Jumpy, or Teach will probably be the name you will end up yelling off the steps of your front porch. 5 – Oreo – to reflect your cat’s coating

Ragdoll cats are “color coded”. Seal, lilac, red, cream, and chocolate blue, their coat comes in a wide pallet of colors. But you recognize a Ragdoll cat by the way their ears, feet, legs, and tail are usually “pointed” in a darker color. A black and white coating can be compared to the famous chocolate vanilla cookie. And your cat’s inherent sweetness will add to the flavor. Other color-inspired names for your Ragdoll include Icing, Ivory, Milky, Scilla, and Sandy. 6 – Cornflower – to reflect a Ragdoll’s trademark feature.

Of course, their bright blue eyes really stand out for all of them, so you might plan on reflecting this special feature in their name. Cornflower is a blue flower that blooms annually in Europe and serves as an inspiration for many legends. In folklore, cornflowers were worn by young men in love; if the flower faded too quickly, it was taken as a sign that the man’s love was not reciprocated. The great 19th-century painter, Vincent Van Gogh, included cornflowers in many of his works.

7 – Elpis – the personification of hope

In Greek mythology, Elpis (Ancient Greek: ἐλπίς) is the personification and spirit of hope. As the classic story goes, Pandora opened a secret gift box received by her husband from Zeus, unleashing all the troubles into the world. However, she managed to close the lid before one last item managed to escape: hope. Elpis was depicted as a young woman, usually carrying flowers or a cornucopia. 8 – Buratino – playful and wise

This unique name is derived from the Italian word burattino, meaning wooden puppet, so it’s a nice twist to the initial ragdoll concept. Buratino is also the Russian response to Carlo Collodi’s beloved character Pinnochio. The little wooden doll is known for having a nose for adventure and learning a valuable life lesson at the end of each episode. If only our cats would do the same and not get stuck in the same place twice in a row!

9 – Josephine – a nod to the breed’s rich history

Any Ragdoll fan will recognize the name of the legendary long-haired cat that produced the very first litter of docile kittens in the 1960s. Other famous Ragdoll cat names include Blackie, Daddy Warbucks, and Fugianna, all belonging to Mrs. Ann Baker who trademarked the Ragdoll brand. So if you are a Ragdoll history buff, this will be a great icebreaker at your next groomer’s appointment. 10 – Lord MoonBlue Drowsy McSqueaker the III-rd – Take the internet by storm!

Let’s face it. The internet is 90% cat videos and cat-related material. If you plan to turn your cat into an internet celebrity, it is best to focus your videos and merchandise on its most distinguishable features. Tardar Sauce will forever be remembered as “Grumpy Cat” because of her seemingly grim expression and the many memes it inspired. Many vloggers chose to expand their pet’s names from a short “Missy” or “Mittens” to a funny “official document” longer version. This is, of course, a shout-out to pageant contestants whose names offered valuable info about the participant’s pedigree but is nowadays used mainly for fun. And if heritage role-playing games are not your thing, you can add a “Lil” in front of your Ragdolls name and embrace its new rapper persona as the likes come pouring in. At the end of the day, when naming your Ragdoll cat, you should always follow your heart and intuition. Take a long look at the little rascal, close your eyes, and go with the first name that pops into your mind. Adorable boy cat names and adorable girl cat names take time to think of, so make it fun. We named our ragdoll cat Darcy. She’s beautiful, a little finicky, and does not like to be around people she doesn’t know. Although really loving when she wants to be.

THANKS, Jenny + Floppycat friends, for the name suggestions!
Since most Ragdolls’ eyes stay blue, I am going to name one of my kittens (getting kittens in 2021), after a BLUE cocktail, Catalina Margarita.
This particular margarita has blue curacao, making it blue. Most likely, I will shorten the name to “Catty” or “Margee”.
I still have one more kitten to come up with a name for.
ALSO, I cannot decide on getting 2 girls, or 1 girl + 1 boy.
