TunaTreats and Charlie

When we contacted CitiKitty because we wanted to test out their cat toilet training system.  They offered to send us one, but also asked if we wanted to try out TunaTreats as well!  I was actually very excited about them because Premium Bonito Flakes were about the only thing Rags, my 19.5 year old Ragdoll cat that died in March 2009, would eat when he was going through chemo.

Of course, Caymus and Murphy also had the pleasure of eating them too because they were around when Rags was living at my parents’ home and going through chemo.

So, when the opportunity arose for Charlie and Trigg to test them out – I couldn’t resist.

Caymus and Murphy when they first tried TunaTreats thought the texture was strange so it was a little hard for them to eat them at first.

Why I love TunaTreats for Charlie and Trigg:

  • They’re great to put on top of their cat food – especially if I am trying to get them to eat something they don’t particularly like – the TunaTreats help them want to eat it!
  • They’re high in protein
  • They’re smell is potent, so cats are attracted to them – especially older cats that have a hard time smelling.  Cats rely on their sniffer when they are deciding to eat – so the more potent the smell, the better.
  • There are no additives or fillers or chemicals
  • No need to refrigerate them!
  • The Flakes are 100% Bonito

Not for Charlie or Trigger man, though!  They dug right in!  Check out this video I took of their first experience with TunaTreats:

Hey You! Send More TunaTreats! I'm starving here!

I love these TunaTreats so much that we are going to be ordering them to have around all the time.  Charlie and Trigg just loved them!

Have your kitties tried Bonito Tuna Flakes? How did they like them?

I am so glad that you are trying out a cat toilet system! I am excited to know how it goes with Charlie and Trigg! Although I do not mind tending to litter boxes, having a toilet trained cat would be very convenient! Will you be posting videos about it?

  2. Jenny says:

Melody, of course, I will follow it through video. My boyfriend’s sister is coming in town with her family- 4 people. I have 3 toilets in my house and two toilet training kits, so I will only have 1 toilet free when I do this. Therefore, I have to wait until they are gone – sometimes it can take up to 2 months. I still have to get flushable litter too. It’s a process, so it takes a lot of planning!

That sounds great! Do you already know which brand of litter you plan on using? I visited the website CitiKitty and read on one of the comments that one of the users also put in a automatic flushing system for her toilet trained cat, that sounds like a good idea but I wonder how sensitive those things are since some depend on heat while others depend on when the person stands up. Overall though, I hope to try this in the future too and hopefully I will have an extra toilet to do so!

      • Jenny says:

Yes, CitiKitty recently came out with the automatic flushing system. I doubt I will buy one of those, unless I am asked to product test it! I want to see what my cats are producing – it’s a good way to keep track of their health, as much as it is a good way to keep track of our own health.

I do not know what kind of litter. While you were reading around, did anyone recommend a certain one for cats that have been used to clay litter?

    Hi Jenny,
I do not recall seeing any litter brands mentioned, but I will keep my eyes pealed and if I happen to see suggestions, I will pass it on to you!
