Interview With Miles & Aimee Harrison Of Atomic Attic Etsy Shop

When we started our Etsy store last June, we concentrated on Vintage items. It quickly broadened to Reclaimed Barn Wood Furniture, Upcycled and Repurposed Quirkiness. Miles is always coming up with new ways to use old things. We’re very passionate about all of our creations and we hope you are too!  We especially love making upcycled cat beds and birdhouses out of ordinary household items.  We share a love for repurposing items!  We love what we do and hope you love our stuff too!

1. How did you get interested in cats?

Atomic Attic Cat BedI’ve always loved cats but it wasn’t until my husband & I moved in together did I start to looOove them.  Miles moved in along with his best buddy, Johnny, a female calico.  He loved her like his own daughter and she was so loyal and humanlike.  It was hard not to get a few more to add to the family shortly after.

How old were you when you had your first kitty?  It wasn’t until later in my childhood, fifteen, when we got our first cat.  Her name was April, she was a feisty calico.

2. How did you discover Etsy?

We started out on Etsy as buyers.  Just making small purchasing here & there from different quirky stores.   Did you consider other ways to sell your products?  When we decided to start selling stuff ourselves, our first & only choice was an Etsy store.

3. Do you sell your products in a local store in your area?

At this time, we sell primarily through our Etsy store.  We would like to expand our market eventually, when the time is right and we have more time on our hands.

4. Have you been successful at selling your products on Etsy?

We’ve exceeded our own expectations of success on Etsy.   Have you always been successful, or did you end up getting a lot more traffic after being featured on a specific blog?  As with most stores, we started out slow, a few sales a month.  It’s taken a few months to get our store out there and promote it.

5. Do your customers ever give you new ideas for products?

We accept custom orders and suggestions so we’re always getting great advice from customers or potential buyers.

6. Have you thought of featuring a Ragdoll cat is some way? (Had to ask.)

Sadly, we don’t have a Ragdoll in our family or she’d be modeling all our cat beds, I’m sure of it!

7. Are you a one wo/man show?

We’re a husband and wife team.  We both are very fortunate to be able to work from home.  Being parents, this rocks!

8. Do you have a blog?

We’re both fairly new to the whole Internet sells and promoting business.  We plan to start a blog in the very near future!  We’ll keep you posted!

9. Do you do custom ordering?

We love doing custom pieces for our customers!  We want you to love what you’re buying.  Can someone return it if they don’t care for it?  Returns are welcome with grace.  If there is something damaged or non-working with an item from our store, we gladly accept.

10. Can you share a story with us behind any of your products that you especially enjoyed working on?

Miles recently came across an idea for a pet bed while searching online.  Since then, he’s become very passionate about making beautiful cat beds out of suitcases with gorgeous pillows for your pampered pets.  It’s rewarding being able to accommodate each individual pet and homeowner with custom pieces.
