Do You Have a Christmas Stocking for Your Cat?

When I was a little girl and still today, my mom always hung a stocking for our dogs and our cat, Rags.  And then Santa would bring treats and toys for the pets and put them in their stockings.

A reader wrote in the other day saying that she had ordered a personalized pet Christmas stocking for her cat from this Etsy store and wondered, “Do other people involve their kitties in holiday celebrations? For those who celebrate Christmas, do their cats have stockings, or do they make a point of getting their kitties presents?”

  1. oh yes! i grew up the same way, we always got stockings for the animals and i still do it. they seem to know too. i used to have a cat that would open presents as soon as they got under the tree and one year i had gotten a toy for him and woke up one morning and he had that thing totally unwrapped and was playing with it! i love shopping for little presents for my cats and hanging stockings for them. they look like presents themselves when they are curled up under the tree. the only thing i’m not thrilled about with christmas and cats is trying to wrap! they have to be in on it and it’s a chore. i always have cat hair in my tape!

  2. I always gift to my pets on xmas. For my cats I have put catnip in a paper bag with their gifts and have then tear open the gifts like everyone else. They have fun doing it and get treats and toys when they finish 🙂

  3. I used to wrap gifts for my cats, but I haven’t in the past few years. However, if I can convince my husband, I plan to get them a very much needed scratching post. Their current posts need to be put out of their misery. I also don’t put up a large tree anymore. I had one cat who climbed up the center and knocked the whole thing down. Needless to say, I was late to work that morning.

  4. Yes! Each of our boys has a stocking that coordinates with their collar color. They each get a catnip mousie, a crinkle ball, and one other toy that I find when I am shopping. The fish get blood worms and the snails get celery. 🙂

  5. When our son was small we always did Christmas stockings for every single member of the family (including all our fur babies!)! However, since we’ve become Empty Nesters (in 2009) we really have not done any Christmas stockings at all and that’s okay with us. Our Miss PSB is spoiled each and every day so Christmas to us at this point isn’t really about the gifts anymore but about spending time together and enjoying the moments (and if that moment includes a gift then great and, if not, that’s okay as well…).

Plus, in our small apartment we don’t really have any place to hang stockings (like we did when we lived in our previous home with a fireplace and beautiful mantel).

    Big hugs!

    Patti & Miss Pink Sugarbelle 🙂 <3
