Huxley is our beautiful Blue Bicolor boy who celebrated his first birthday on January 2, 2012! My husband and I adopted him in November from LuvleeDolls, a small (and amazing!) Ragdoll cattery on Long Island. Huxley is our second Ragdoll from LuvleeDolls and we highly recommend them. They truly love the breed (and every single one of their cats) and they are committed to producing beautiful, healthy cats with the perfect Ragdoll temperament.

Our Huxley is a perfect example of their wonderful breeding. He is the sweetest most loyal friend you could ask for. We call him our “Sweet Gentleman.” He is also a wonderful big brother. He is very patient and protective of his little half-brother, Gatsby.

Huxley is a great companion. He follows me all over the house. He is curled up right next me as I write this. He loves being rubbed, but also enjoys just being near his brother and human “parents.” He is also a music lover and likes to listen to me sing around the house. Sometimes he even joins in! Huxley is practically perfect in every way and leaves all the hijinx and misbehaving to his baby brother.

Huxley has two specialties when it comes to interacting with his human parents. He is a spectacular alarm clock. About 5-10 min before your actual alarm clock is set to go off he will climb onto your chest and start kneading you awake with his paws. It’s adorable and a much better way to wake up than a blaring alarm. Huxley’s other talent is giving hugs! If you are laying down he will walk up to you and wrap both his front paws around you and join you for a snuggle. He is truly precious.

My husband and I felt that our Ragdolls should have a distinguished gentlemanly name to match their regal look. We named our first cat Gatsby because he’s a spunky little kitten with a naughty side. We chose the name Huxley because it sounded just as gentlemanly and also because it fit the same literary time period and I liked the idea of having ‘Art Deco’ cats.

We adopted Huxley when he was 10 months old, so he spent most of his first year at LuvleeDolls Cattery where he was loved and socialized beautifully. The wonderful Lisa Sullo of LuvleeDolls was kind enough to send me some of Huxley’s baby photos. He is so cute!

We simply adore our Sweet Gentleman, Huxley. He completes our little family perfectly.

From a very young age, I have simply adored cats… I have so many cherished moments of my Domestic Shorthair Annie, staring up at me with her beautiful eyes, with her loud motor going. And of course those freakishly cold winter nights, when she would curl up in bed and smooch for hours on end.

Sadly, in 2008 our joy was cut short, after a group of boys kicked Annie while she was sunning herself outside. At the tender age of 18, the vet was limited in what he could do and the only humane thing to do was to put our princess to sleep.

After a year without my girl, I was introduced to an acquaintance’s Seal Bi-Colour Ragdoll and got an almighty tug at the heart strings! Before I knew it, my fiancé and I were looking throughout New Zealand for another baby and it wasn’t long until we stumbled across Keepin-Katz of New Zealand. Of the breeders we enquired with, Alison and Roy were friendly, helpful and absolutely dedicated to their Ragdoll “kids.”

Click here to view the embedded video.

Chiko and Roman

The tough decision then became which pattern would we like. No small feat given the beautiful array of Ragdoll patterns and colours out there! In the end, we took home two beautiful fluffy bundles, Roman the Seal Bi-Colour (born 20/09/09) and Chiko the Seal Lynx Point with chocolate features (born 12/09/09).

They are absolutely stunning babies, very loving, attentive, outgoing, playful and affectionate. They purr when we touch them (even just picking them up and their motors go!), they purr when we talk to them, they purr when we are near them and they purr even when they see us.

They are very quiet, with Chiko being the more vocal of the two – he has a little meow for when he is stuck or in some sort of trouble, when he knows mummy’s getting his dinner and when he is looking for me to get cuddles – he meows to let me know he wants me to pick him up and cuddle him, it is very sweet and he just purrs and purrs until he falls asleep in my arms.

Roman, a Seal Bicolor Ragdoll, and Chiko, a Seal Lynx Mitted Ragdoll

And our baby Roman loves to brush around our legs and look up at us lovingly with those huge deep sea blue eyes of his, he is SUCH an attention seeker and smooch. – Often found snuggling under the covers with one of us!

Although they are both boys, they love each other very much and cuddle each other all the time and hate being separated, even for a couple of seconds. They are a true testament to the Ragdoll breed displaying all associated characteristics, even the floppyness and this is all because of their pure lines, the time, care and effort their breeders.

We have had so much fun watching “the twins” and their antics, that we visited Keepin-Katz on Valentine’s Day 2010 and had a look at their latest litter. Although, I was initially after a girl to balance out the testosterone, Cupid had other plans for us and I fell head over heels in love with another little boy. Whom, we have named Archer (“Ari” for short), representing our love for him that Valentine’s Day. Though, he is also my “Little Bean” as he is still a baby compared to his brothers (born 17/01/10).

Ari - Blue Lynx Mitted with a blaze Ragdoll

Little Ari is a gorgeous Blue Lynx Mitted with a blaze Ragdoll and is a beautiful boy inside and out – like his brothers, he just radiates love. His favourite position in the house is being glued to my side and he just stares and stares at me, with his little motor going. Ragdolls really are all about love!

If anyone would like to ask me about our boys, or see some of their antics, you can find us on YouTube under membership Raggy_Heaven. We love our boys very much and cannot recommend Ragdolls highly enough.

This is a story about Sneakers, our seal bi-colored Ragdoll kitty with face markings like the mask in Phantom of the Opera.

It seems that from the time our kids were little we always had animals – from an array of hamsters, fish, birds, puppies and, finally, kitties. It seems the cats always lasted the longest.

Sometime during our daughter’s senior year of high school we lost our beloved Tosha and Nicholas, a pair of silver chinchilla Persians–he with that nasty urinary blockage problem and she after she swallowed a piece of cording I had on the floor. After that we decided no more pets. So the kids moved on with their lives, each graduating, marrying and establishing their own families.

Sneakers as a kitten in a sink

Feeling that empty nest syndrome, I began longing for another kitty. I went to cat show after cat show but in the Northwest there doesn’t seem to be a lot of Ragdoll breeders. My cousin, Pat, has always had Ragdolls and loves the breed…they are so docile, sweet and loving. I really wanted a “lap cat” so I began combing the internet, looking for a breeder in our area within driving range. I found several but ended up driving to Auburn, Washington, one day with my daughter, taking a borrowed kitty carrier “just in case”. Greeting us at the door were 3 of the cutest kitty faces you ever saw and I was smitten. Two of them were adorable, of course, but one had a little black spot on his back paw and whitish pink tips on his ears which made him unique. So, of course, we scooped him up and drove him the 100 miles back home. He romped in between our pillows on our bed and scampered around the house making himself right at home. I think cats do that, don’t they? Or is he special just because I think he is?

Sneakers

He has grown from a 2.5 pound kitten into an almost 16-pound big boy. Even my husband, who could either take animals or leave them, has gotten attached to him and loves him almost as much as I do. He isn’t the sweet, docile, loving kitty I was hoping for…but he has tons of personality. He gets that “streak of energy”, from lying on top of the coffee table, taking a dead run down the hall, back up the hall, around the couch, hopping over my husband’s footstool and sliding back across the coffee table, and stopping just in time before he falls off on the other side. Then he goes back to sleep. Amazing muscle control!

I love the way he lays on his back with his paws curled up like all Ragdolls do, I guess. I rub his tummy until he gives me a little nip telling me that’s enough. He will give me a little nip while I am sitting in a chair or on the couch to let me know he wants to play. He loves for my husband to chase him around the house. He likes to chase the laser light until he figures out that he can’t catch it so he gives up and just watches it. His favorite toy is a feather bird on a fishing line fastened to a plastic rod. He isn’t very good at giving kitty snuggles. I just have to scoop him up and hug him while he wiggles to get down. But he knows he is loved very much.

Sneakers

We did have a scare recently. He came down with that dreaded urinary blockage some male kitties get. He was in the kitty hospital for 2 days and 2 nights to the tune of $900 but he is fine now for which we are thankful. Seems he doesn’t particularly like to drink water even with the little water spout dish we got him. So, once again, via the internet, we found a pet fountain where the water flows like a faucet in a sink and…believe it or not…don’t look now…but he was actually drinking out of it yesterday!

My favorite thing is our little routine at night which we started right away (I didn’t want to wake up with a fur ball in my face). His litter box is in the master “toidy” area anyway, so we put him in the master bath…toidy..and closet area at night with the door shut. At 9:00 he knows it is bedtime so I scoop him up (all almost 16 lbs of him), put his bed on the bathroom counter, run the water into the sink so he can get a drink. When he is finished

Sneakers

drinking he will sit up straight, I turn off the faucet, turn off the main light, and give him a little lovin’ and turn out the light and shut the door. This is our routine every night. If I don’t put him down at 9 and go past 9, we are in for a little chase before one of us can catch him.

I love this… “Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a function.”

I was visiting my sister in NY and became enchanted by her adorable Ragdoll kitten, Lilly. We visited my sister’s friend who had Lilly’s sister, Penny, another beautiful Ragdoll, a large, sweet lap sitter. My sister and niece encouraged me to get a kitten, and so I considered it.

After a long cold winter in my new place, I decided to warm things up and make the house a home by getting a kitten. Did a little research and found that the characteristics of the Ragdoll breed would make the perfect pet for me.

I started some Internet research on how to find a kitten, called around, and eventually found a reputable breeder in the Chicago area, not too far from where I live: Cathy of Ballerina Ragdolls. Unfortunately, she had no kittens available. Shortly after that, I awoke one morning ruminating about getting a male instead of a female kitten, which I had originally requested. A half-hour later, Cathy called me and told me a blue bicolor boy had become available.

I went to meet him the next day…a little ball of fluff—too adorable for words! I was smitten and on a high after visiting him and all the other kitties.

Valentino

This is Valentino: so elegant and gorgeous, born on Valentine’s Day. He’s a little love-bug! And a bonafide purring machine.

He follows me wherever I go in the house and stays near me wherever I am. My favorite part of the day is waking up with him sleeping right next to me . I’ve taken to staying in bed later than I used to just to pet him and hear him purr.

It cracks me up the way he wakes up from a nap, sits up with eyes closed, and then at my touch falls over on his back purring, silently asking me to pet him. He often lays on his back in true Ragdoll fashion and stays limp when I pick him up and carry him around like a baby.

Many people think of all cats as being the same…but that is not true.! Breeds have distinctive characteristics. And the Ragdoll is much more people-oriented than most other breeds. They like to take part in everything you do; as if they´ll miss out on some fun if they don’t constantly follow at your foot steps, just like dogs do.

Basically, Valentino likes to be anyplace where there´s some action.

At the sink when I am washing dishes…

Waiting outside the shower door for me. (He loves to watch water)…

Sleeping in the small space between my keyboard and computer screen. And the bigger he gets, the more typing mistakes get made!

He loves his cat tree and especially likes to sleep on the top perch. His extra sturdy Molly and Friends cat tree was a great purchase and worth the extra investment for its high-quality.

Valentino

Even though every day he gets 3 meals– plus a midnight snack– each time he eats with gusto, like he hasn’t eaten for a week!

I love how he trots over to his food dish , purring, with his tail up in the air purring even as he gobbles his food. Often after his late night snack he’ll tear around the house in a playful mood before settling down to sleep.

He loves all his toys, from the fancy store bought ones to little balled up candy wrappers. Wiggling toes beware! And for some odd reason he goes crazy in the bathtub, chasing his tail and acting crazy.

Now that his eyesight is developing, he’s beginning to enjoy sitting by the window watching the birds and trees.

He’s such a good boy — always uses his litter box , scratchy pads and scratching post and he comes to me when I call him. When he calls me with a meow, I am on the case.

He’s got his Mama wrapped around his paw; I’ll admit it… I am kitty-whipped!

Valentino is my precious and adorable little angel and I wouldn’t have it any other way!!

Tobias, the Bi-colour Blue Ragdoll, is quite the character in our home. The one and a half year old has been following us around the house like a dog since we first got him, two weeks before Christmas 2008, as he was born on September 14th of that year.

His favourite food … is water. He can’t get enough of it – he just cries and cries (he doesn’t really have a proper meow), until we get up from what we are doing and turn on the sink for him. You see, he only prefers fresh, running water … such a spoiled, but proper little boy!

Tobias Hermansen

His favourite day of the week is Tuesdays, which is dump truck day here in Stavanger, Norway. He loves watching the men work their way down the street. He just enjoys looking at them from the third floor, as they throw bins of garbage away – while seagulls and crows fly by the window.

If he’s lucky, we open the window in the kitchen, so he can grab on to the handle and smell all the different tales and stories from the streets. He loves watching the neighbourhood alley cats roam around and daydreams about living on the town.

Tobie

We first found Tobias on the site www.finn.no, where we found a wonderful Ragdoll breeder. Here in Norway, it’s hard to find adoption facilities and with an allergic husband, we had to make sure that any cat we bought was purebred. After much research with my husband’s specific allergies in mind, while falling more in love with Ragdolls, we contacted www.macchiattos.com and talked with the wonderful breeder named Berit.

She was so awesome with updating us on “Arrow of Legolas” (which he was called at the time). We later decided to name him Tobias, because he looked wise like Tobias in the Tower, in the Norwegian children’s tale “Cardamom Town” … and we just kept calling him Tubby, or Tubs. I would definitely choose this breeder again as they have such beautiful Ragdoll litters.

Tobias actually has a long bloodline, as his ancestry started in Sweden! His great grandfather was also a Grand Champion. We are lucky enough to have his little family tree with us, and we can date most of his ancestors back a dozen generations. It’s pretty amazing.

The bicolor Ragdoll (pictured left is Catnip Cactus Jack of Angelight) is a sought after color pattern and is one of the three accepted color patterns. When looking at show quality, there are two ideal marking patterns: Minimal white and maximum white.

Minimal white marked bicolor ragdolls have the pink paw pads and noses. They have an inverted and symmetrical V in the mask and almost the whole back is colored. There is white on the front and back legs and a long white strip that goes from just under the chin to the underside base of the tail. Some of the point coloration could be visible.

In the maximum white marked bicolor there is, as the name suggests, more white then color. The color forms what looks like a saddle on the back of the feline. Paw pads and nose is pink and belly and legs are completely white. The mask extends past the eyes.

Ragdoll kittens are born white and their colors deepen as they age. There are numerous colors that the bicolor ragdoll can come in: seal, flame, blue, and tortie. They can come in the lynx or non lynx pattern.

The seal bicolors has colors that range from dark beige to chocolate brown. The points are the darkest part with the color getting gradually darker as it goes to the points. The flame is similar only with lighter to darker beige coloration. The tortie color variation is a mix of the two it has a base beige color with darker splotches in it. The blue bicolors is one of the more popular colors. The colors range from a light grey to a darker grey blue.

The lynx pattern has a base color with lines of a darker variant running through the body, very similar pattern to tabby markings. For example, a blue lynx bicolor ragdoll will have the standard white base with blue patterns. There will be darker shades of blue and gray running through the body.

The bicolor pattern is a wonderful compliment to an already extraordinary cat breed. Whether show quality or not they are a sight to behold. The bicolor ragdolls live up to their regal nature.
