Meet Huxley!

Huxley

Huxley is our beautiful Blue Bicolor boy who celebrated his first birthday on January 2, 2012! My husband and I adopted him in November from LuvleeDolls, a small (and amazing!) Ragdoll cattery on Long Island. Huxley is our second Ragdoll from LuvleeDolls and we highly recommend them. They truly love the breed (and every single one of their cats) and they are committed to producing beautiful, healthy cats with the perfect Ragdoll temperament.

The Sweet Gentleman

Our Huxley is a perfect example of their wonderful breeding. He is the sweetest most loyal friend you could ask for. We call him our “Sweet Gentleman.” He is also a wonderful big brother. He is very patient and protective of his little half-brother, Gatsby.

Huxley is a great companion. He follows me all over the house. He is curled up right next me as I write this. He loves being rubbed, but also enjoys just being near his brother and human “parents.” He is also a music lover and likes to listen to me sing around the house. Sometimes he even joins in! Huxley is practically perfect in every way and leaves all the hijinx and misbehaving to his baby brother.

Huxley’s Trademark Moves:

Huxley has two specialties when it comes to interacting with his human parents. He is a spectacular alarm clock. About 5-10 min before your actual alarm clock is set to go off he will climb onto your chest and start kneading you awake with his paws. It’s adorable and a much better way to wake up than a blaring alarm. Huxley’s other talent is giving hugs! If you are laying down he will walk up to you and wrap both his front paws around you and join you for a snuggle. He is truly precious.

What’s in a Name

My husband and I felt that our Ragdolls should have a distinguished gentlemanly name to match their regal look. We named our first cat Gatsby because he’s a spunky little kitten with a naughty side. We chose the name Huxley because it sounded just as gentlemanly and also because it fit the same literary time period and I liked the idea of having ‘Art Deco’ cats.

We adopted Huxley when he was 10 months old, so he spent most of his first year at LuvleeDolls Cattery where he was loved and socialized beautifully. The wonderful Lisa Sullo of LuvleeDolls was kind enough to send me some of Huxley’s baby photos. He is so cute!

We simply adore our Sweet Gentleman, Huxley. He completes our little family perfectly.

One of my favorite things about seal mitted Ragdoll cats is how they start off white and then morph into these beautiful creatures with lusciously dark coats.

Here is a photo of Caymus and Murphy with Rags.  Rags is 15 years old and Caymus and Murphy are less than 6 months old.  They are all seal mitted Ragdoll cats.

When Charlie and Trigg, as well as my parents’ cat, Murphy, were on dry food, they were interested in drinking from the toilet.  Now that they are off of dry food, they are no longer interested.  So it begs the question, “Does Your Cat Drink From The Toilet?

The wonders of Facebook has helped me understand the love Ragdoll cats and any cat for that matter have for laundry baskets.

Since I moved into my house 6 years ago, it became habit for me to carry the cats up from the basement in a laundry basket.  I have included photos of Rags, Charlie and Trigg in the laundry baskets I have toted them around in.

Trigg Crater Dottin'

Baby Saxon

Saxon (aka Meriwidoz Saks 5th Avenue) came to us in August 2009 after Peg Horne Nelson and I decided Bastien needed a companion his age. My cats are older (11-12 years old, except for Shaman, who is about six but who would never deign to play with another cat—he is too busy chasing lizards through the window) and Bastien appeared to be lonely.

Young Saxon

Saxon is a lovely, perfectly marked (in my opinion) Seal Mitted Ragdoll boy, born October 16, 2008. At first, I was struck by his rugged good looks and bunny-fur coat, but he was so mellow I was afraid he was going to get lost in the hustle and bustle of my busy house with my cats and with the rescue cats. I felt like he didn’t receive enough of my attention. I even talked to Peg about finding him another home and interviewed prospective adopters. For some odd reason, I can’t imagine why, I found fault with each one. One lady became irate when she came to meet him, and I wouldn’t let her take him home.

Then, one day, I realized that Saxon quite clearly knows how to get my attention. He is my make-up and wardrobe advisor, watching me carefully to make sure my blush is applied perfectly, as he sits between my mirror and me. Yes, his favorite toy is my blush brush, which he often bats around the counter top. At the least expected time, he will rush across the room, bounce across the bed, and lay full-length on me giving me “loving.”

Saxon's Best Friend, Gryffin

When my beloved Red Maine Coon, Aslan, died in June of 2010 (keep in mind that I love all of my cats with all my heart, but there are special cats as we all know, called “heart” cats, that hold our hearts and break them when they leave. Aslan was such a cat as was my Merlin of Merlin’s Hope), I thought Bastien would step up and be my “heart” cat. He is one of the most affectionate, most loving cats I have ever had, but strangely enough in the days and even weeks after Aslan’s death, it was Saxon who came to me every night and comforted me. Even Shaman who normally hogs my time at night with his loving moved over and let Saxon take over. A few months after Aslan died, I adopted one of my own rescues (surprise, surprise, a red Maine Coon kitten). I thought Saxon would go back to being that quiet member of my household. Not so! Saxon and Gryffin have become best friends and they often wrestle (with Bastien mixed in for good measure). If I hear the tromping of “big footsteps” coming down the long hall, I know it is the three of them playing chase.

The funny thing is that Gryffin will cry for his mother (“MAAAAA”) when he is losing; Bastien will run away and act like he is too good to fight; Saxon fights until he wins or the others give up. Like his name, he is a true warrior and always wins his battles. He won my heart by being my wardrobe and make-up advisor, but he won his place in this household by being a brave warrior, a strange thought for a cat who is so incredibly mellow and gentle most of the time.

Oh, Saxon’s favorite toy is Gryffin (who he holds down and beats up) and my blush brush. How fortunate I am that I managed, somehow, to choose the exactly right cat to fit in and become Saxon’s buddy.

Taz, my 20+ pound Ragdoll kitten isn’t a kitten any more.  He’s just over a year old, and already the heavy weight around the house.  Taz is a gentle giant, though.  For such a big cat, his meow is comically quiet.  He does this when he wants to be picked up. After you pick him up, and accept the obligatory lick on the nose, he unleashes his big diesel motor, and purrs loud enough to echo through the house.
